Why the fuck won't this ancient meme die??
First of all, Planar / R2T projections use their own camera and output, which can be adjusted. The "mirror" seldom uses 1:1 the same rendering resolution nor max framerate as the playing screen, nor does it have to load all of the assets and special effects, with the same LOD.
Second, the reflective surface does not need to be "on" at all times. When it's out of the view, or far away, it can be toggled off, or replaced with something more performant.
Last: we still got graphics cards that are at least 15k times faster than what we got in the mid-00s. And many games released the past few years, Hitman included, prove that you can do real time reflections just fine, without RTX shit, that always runs worse.
