Are the developers still trannies
Tons of tools used for game and art creation have been made with Godot.
BF6 will allow using Godot as its map creator.
I bet there's a bunch of Godot games as well (Road To Vostok is still WIP), but it is a much younger engine, that only got a proper 3D mode during 2020s.
Unity and Unreal both have been around for 20+ years longer. And to be honest, most of their games suck ass.
>>717376593 (OP)there's rings of saturn
its ok, not really standout (doesn't have much content/gameplay) and it has had a lot of serious performance issues, but it's ok and made in godot

>>717378808most indie devs were making flash games i think.
yeah, godot didn't exist yet when almost all of these came out
>>717379469any coding knowledge you get will help moving to a different language, though the difference between GDscript and C++ might be pretty high
you can try C# in godot but C++ is just its own beast
>>717378808ue3 and source
indies liked xna and flash (flixel was popular since pixelart was big at the time)
unity first became popular with adobe director refugees, and then drew in prospective ios devs
for some time the biggest unity game was tumbledrop

I released a shitty game on Godot for android a few months ago https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x7buw7pddU
Needless to say, do NOT use godot for fucking 3D projects, that shit is an optimization nightmare, I could barely hit 60FPS anymore after using some basic ass shaders. For 2D projects however, Godot is absolutely god tier, the node/scene workflow is genuinely amazing.
Already migrated to Unity for my first actual high effort game.
>>717381682Finally an actual dev sharing his experience. Thanks, anon.
>>717378808For indies wanting to make 3D games, there was no such engine. That's why Unity got so big in such a short time and part of reason why Godot has trouble catching up a decade later.
>>717376593 (OP)Pic related is the one game I always think of when Godot comes up.
How good is Godot for 2D stuff anyways? I installed it recently but clueless on where to start.
you realize those engines are heavily modified right? it's not like they're using the same unity or unreal that you can download.
