do you think streaming yourself playing video games is a good way to make online friends to play games with?

Yes, but you'd have to be engaging in other people's community. Unless, by the miracle of god, you just blow up. Then your "friends" will flock to you

I have done this. But as a 13 yo girl. It was funny. A lot of people wanted to be my friend and know where I live.
One guy said I looked really pretty, even though I don't have any pictures. He wanted to meet me
I wonder what that was all about?

I collected about 3-4 friends for making double digit view youtube videos. People like the thought of being on the ground floor of what could be an empire (even if like in my case I just stopped caring).
And if nothing else, they could just think you're a fun guy to hang around.

the people that join <10 viewer streams (in popular categories) are fucking weirdos you don't want to associate with them

I've made a few friends from streaming but honestly you'll have a way better and faster time making friends anywhere else. stream because you want to stream, not to use it as a social outlet

Why steam at all if it's not to connect with people on some level? Streaming is taking a solo activity and broadcasting it to other people. I can't think of another reason to do it.

if you want to stream for a mix of both, that's fine but if you're purely looking for friends, do it another way to save yourself some time. starting out streaming to no one is hard and getting people to watch is even harder, then it needs to be someone you click with who has similar interests. the social dynamic of streamer and viewer is a bit different too, some people are just there purely to watch

I'm editing 2 playthroughs I did last year before I make a major shift to streaming. MH Stories and DQ3 Remake. The stories playthrough is fucking rough. It was the first game I played through fully on stream and you can tell. Despite that, I still want to put it out. The DQ3 playthrough I always credited as making me a better commentator. I think it starts rough but gets better as it goes. Funnily enough, and I don't remember this, but apparently I dropped Stories part way through and started it back up after I finished DQ3. The difference between the 4th and 5th recording of Stories is astronomical in terms of commentating quality.

I don't understand how you're supposed to integrate into other people's communities if you're working on your own stuff. Seriously how do you make creator friends?

i sometimes watch smaller streamers who are playing something interesting and occasionally they follow me back
some of them show up from time to time but i intentionally disabled raids because i mostly stream to a small friend group and usually say a bunch of no-no words like nigger and faggot if i'm drinking during a stream so i'd hate for that to reflect poorly on someone else if they raided me lmao
but basically just hang out

I appreciate the answer fellas, but like I said, I'm busy working on my own stuff. When I'm not, I'd like to chillax enjoying my time my way. Like I wouldn't mind sitting in a voice chat or collabing with someone, but actually sitting in their stream and trying to engage is extremely time consuming. Like, why should I be in their stream instead of just streaming myself. Feels like a catch-22

Not at all. It's theoretically possible that someone would stop by because they also like the game, but more likely they're just looking to beat off to face cams and they like 'em unknown and nervous

I've made around 8 consistent friends via small Twitch channels. We've met several times in person and rented a house and hung out and stuff. It's been pretty dope.

>Average like, 15-20 viewers (active) but a bunch more "inactive" because Twitch hides the names of people who aren't focused on the stream tab or have been idle.
>I know the latter is true because literally all the time, other streamers/artists I know tell me they're lurking and I have no idea.
>Anyway, with those viewers, literally no one chats. Like barely a single word. Outside of raids, it's like 5-6 hours of either me saying dumb shit to myself, or working in silence.
I don't really have a point to this, but it's very weird.

No anon. If you're going to spend on a GPU for that then try to talk to the people playing the games you play, or go to to a store that hosts card games or tabletop games with strangers. Hell, enroll on a course of whatever as long as involves interacting with people.
