The more you make a face move the harder it is to make it look good.
Most facescans look great in a neutral state with no movement.
It's when things start moving that things get wild.
In the PS3 and earlier days, facial animation was quite basic, so the characters retain their appearance more closely despite looking like marionettes in motion.
