In the old days they had Bullfrog games (Populous) and games like Tomb Raider, Burnout, LittleBigPlanet, Wipeout and Dirt.

Nowadays all they have is No Mans Sky...what went wrong?

All answers people will give you here are wrong and based purely on reactionary sentiment. The reality is that America offers higher pay, more options if you wanted to change which company you worked for, and better standard of living. As a result, the best workers from Britain migrate to the US.
It's just classic brain drain. Naturally, the country that gets drained also declines afterwards.
