Also finished act 4. It's really evident how they're running out of steam at this point, really cool the callback and the horror theme but the exploration was less deep than the previous chapters.

Also in terms of bosses the last one and Bo Magus were a letdown (although the political melty of the Emperor was quite nice), but Honglan and Zhao Yun are kino (I don't count Demon of Obsession).

Wuchang fucking sucks. They somehow took all the wrong lessons from other souls games and made them worse.
The animation timing is all over the place. Bosess knock you over constantly and the animation length plus lack of i-frames mean you'll get raped before you can roll back up.

Tempering adds whatever damage needle you have, if you use the fire needle it'll add fire damage.
That weapon is special in that fire temperance greatly enhances it, so yes you should always temper when on boss fights, and unlock more acupoints.

Ming general was stupidly easy for me. My build was just longswords and fishing for obliterates, and I found that if I stayed at range he would always do the same three hit combo to close the distance which was stupidly easy to dodge and perfectly positioned me behind him. No window of downtime, she just hails on me and mixes all sorts of attacks, so I can't consistently clash. This game's kicking my ass. I just beat Ai Nengqi after a dozen tries, and the ice guy looks like he's going to be just as hard. Should I just spec completely into a single weapon? Seems the only optimal choice to keep my damage on pace with the bosses.

Yes, dual speccing is a noob trap, you don't have enough points to make it worthwhile until you've mastered your initial weapon.

And most likely you'll only want your second weapon for whatever discipline it has on fast swap, not to actually use it.

In all souls games I usually struggle most on bosses with high stamina and lots of different moves. Shadow of the Erdtree was a nightmare for me for this reason.
Wuchang has a few bosses like that, and they were nightmares for me too, but they're also fairly spaced out.
Bo Sorcerer and Mistress of the Night were easier for me because I didn't mind playing the long game and waiting for their openings to knock down.

Yeah, the game taught me really early on that fast R2s into obliterates was really powerful, so I kinda just stuck with that the whole game. I actually consider it pretty OP. Like, everyone and their mother seems to complain about Bo sorcerer in Avian Marsh, but it only took a couple tries to learn when I could safely R2 and obliterate and after that it was easy.

I think so, because you have all the weapons, spells and skills you actually want to use available to you. The only thing to keep in mind is you have to de-level your weapons to match the boss HP as they just scale all enemies up by a set value meaning early-game enemies die in one obliterate to +10 weapons.

Some 30 attempts with Ming General. I quickly moved to counterattack longsword build and only used that. First stage was easly once I learned to counter all his moves, 2nd one gave me plenty of problems. Then for one run it all just clicked and I beat him without using a single health flask.

I think that it's possible to just slowly jab at his health by keeping distance and waiting for his lunge attack from mid range and counter that and go for a single light hit. But I didn't have patience for that.

I'm currently hitting it hard against boobie master Mistress of the Night. I just don't get her. I'm using axe against her, and at times heavy attack crushes her from zero break meter to broken, but I can't replicate it. Also, I'm not willing to move to single sword and magic for her. That shit is cheating.

I'm pretty sure the "backstab" hitbox in this game is finicky as fuck.
There have been a lot of human bosses to I kept backshotting at nonsensical angles but also completely resisted what appeared to me to be a visually perfect backstab.
Also of course I'm pretty sure they gain resistance everytime you break their posture. You're not likely to manage more than 3 before killing them.

I beat my head up against her as well.
What ended up working was using dual blades fast charging R2 backstab after certain moves. The purple balls and the 3 stomp kicks she does after teleporting being the best ones.
I tried with the longsword first, but the tracking on it is much worse, so it missed a lot when I needed it.

I did it by fishing for backstabs and learning how to dodge her kicks and fox teleport.
You need to be close enough to run behind her, but not close enough you'll die to her corruption thing, that said the corruption attack is your best bet to get behind her.

Bosses are pretty samey in the vein of circular/square box you dodge around with three exceptions but the combat is fun enough that I didn't mind.
It's an extremely competent modern soulslike that rips from Lords of the Fallen for combat movement, Nioh for weapon gimmicks, and Dark Souls for some of its convoluted level design.

Did a new fresh run yesterday with spears and owned Honglan with the spear ability that flips over humanoids, it was so cheesy. The flip ability didn't work on the Ming commander though but worked on the mistress.

My favorite posts are when shitters get filtered by any humanoid boss which you can burst down and bully with every weapon maybe except spear

no but the tutorial did pop up saying about block and parry before this fight, so obviously whist its not required probably a good idea if i try it like they suggest.
originally i was using the chainwhip LS the whole time since getting it, which doesn't really have an evade and is more AoE with its skill.
so i switched to sword just cheesing and staying far away, with the passive skyborn stacks and burn spells. i almost killed her like that but once i get hit it's almost 1 shot and don't get time to heal. i'll try using the default starter longsword with the evade i guess.

when i say stuck, probably 20 or less deaths so far but yeah kinda annoying for an early boss. i can't dodge her combos so good.

The armor you can get after defeating the rebel general is pretty much built to fight the Ming general. He's way easier with high slash and pierce resistance.

If you're gonna use 1hand sword, you can spam evasive maneuver. It lasts for 2 seconds so time it accordingly. You'll get your skyborn might back when you evade a hit with it. You should also be making use of Alacrity and the spells that say they have it. They allow you to dodge a hit during a certain part of the animation but you can't just use them willy nilly, you gotta time it so you dont get hit by a follow up attack.

Impetus has branching skill trees you can reset at any time at no cost. There's useful spell stuff that branches off the line that goes left.
You gotta unlock the disciplne on the impetus menu and when you do you get it in the discipline menu for all weapons of that type.

Finished Wuchang a few days ago and someone from these threads recommended AI Limit as something to play next. It's really scratching that itch Wuchang left behind in terms of the exploration, good recommendation. I thought I was completely done with an area only to find out I missed an entire section that lead to an entirely different area. I love that shit.

Just finished it. The plot goes completely schizo after Zhenwu and the final area felt simultaneously rushed yet far too big.
Enjoyable overall though.
