A game isn't a fad if it continues to stay relevant with many updates (which hoyo games do similarly to what Epic does to Fortnite to keep people coming back). Fads would be games that had a spark that dropped off after a month or two. Remember H1Z1? That was a fad. The horse game is already 4 years old in its own country and had the owners of the horses decided not to outlaw comiket r18 depictions of their horses we probably would've seen them trending sooner in the West (or maybe not since a large reason they're trending is because Western streamers find the game safe to stream compared to the likes of Nikke or Brown Dust 2 which get covered by SEA monkeys instead).

Not necessarily seethe when you're just properly analyzing the really bad game mechanics attached to gacha games. The whole 'power locked behind multiple copies' thing is just atrocious. For a lot of those games if you play f2p you would have to play for a year to get max copies of a unit, and that's only if you skip every single other available unit and also dependant on the rerun schedule. That's just so much arbitrary time investment. In Genshin you clear story/events/side quests/overworld content with way less time investment each patch. So, why does one character take so long to reach it's max potential without paying? Why do f2p essentially get punished? I mean even if you go dolphin mode you still have to avoid pulling a lot of characters if you're trying to c6 something. That's just bad game design even if the game is free. Free part is cool, the mechanics behind obtaining characters, resources and gear are usually just really bad. The whole driving force tends to be the attraction of the casino element and sometimes you'll have a good story, or maybe only good music. There's usually only a couple of genuinely good things done in a gacha game and it's almost always something unrelated to the gameplay.

I say this having had most of my gacha enjoyment come from Arknights and GFL1. Although, in GFL's case that game is way too fair, no other gacha would ever follow their model. And the gameplay of those two isn't winning any awards even if I enjoyed it. They're mostly attractive from their puzzle-like end game gameplay, decent/autistic story and music.

The one I played is such garbo, that I can't trust any others by association, even if a fan says it has good gameplay, I'm sure there's a catch. I almost tried playing genshin for the exploration-only, but damn the writing sucks. even if the gameplay is good, that's godawful writing.
