We should petition by talking about it and signal boosting this problem, and make it known so that they properly earmark games that do this for unknowing consumers before they buy.
Seems like a very fair thing to ask for, given you might not want to play or purchase a product if it requires you forfeit a Photo ID to the developer/publisher, like you're being carded for alcohol, to just play a videogame.
I mean, imagine the scenario: A person buys a game with a singleplayer campaign you can play for hours, but the online is blocked by ID verification, and they didn't know prior. This person doesn't want to verify their ID, so if they knew that the game would ask this beforehand, they wouldn't have bought it, but now it's too late because they played more than 2 hours and/or it's been over 14 days.
The better answer is for the store page to inform consumers so that they can make a properly informed purchasing decision. Having anything less means starving consumers of information they should know before buying, and as a storefront, it's your obligation to list the requirements for the product you're selling. Just like Minimum Specs and EULAs.

It's unfair that Steam not disclose this to consumers, so we should make it known, both in protest of the forced ID verification itself, but also for basic consumer protections.

Clever ragebait glow-op post

My suspicion is that Steam already plans to add something once GTA launches this, but that also might not be true.
But it absolutely should be, as it would be in-line with their other approaches toward EULAs, 3rd party logins, etc. as shown.

Steam should inform you beforehand, but if you happen to live in the UK, I think it's about time to leave.
Even your government would prefer it to happen this way rather than...well.

Continental Europe will probably follow suit, so if I were you, I'd look elsewhere.
The people atop our societies hate us and want to do away with us for returning that hate by not voting for them anymore.

Absolutely. Get the FUCK out of the shitholes.
Ironic bc gamers were banking on SKG and European law to help the industry, but now they're also doing this...

100% this should be so, customers have a Right To Know.
>>717493176
This isn't censorship, this is just basic Right To Know of every customer. Their ToS and EULA should all be readable PRIOR purchasing the game.

Steam itself should require Photo ID. This solves the issue with games that require it.

If photo ID was required on 4chan, you never would have posted that. I would have posted this, though, because I'm a manly man with hairy testicles and programming socks on.

>some state or irrelevant nation pushes some retarded bullshit
>every single website instantly has compliant code rolled out instantly

back in the day every website would just redirect offending ip addresses to blank page with "your government is retarded" and nothing else.
