hey /v/irgins, looking for something that feels similar to the opening of 28 Years Later with the dad and the son on the mainland. big open area/open world, buildings to explore but never knowing what's around the corner. this sounds a bit vague but would love a game where stealth is the primary goal but you have somewhere to run and hide if it goes tits up. doesn't have to be zombies but not knowing where the threat could come from is a big plus. the google search led me to reddit posts where people suggested stuff like Days Gone and Project Zomboid and while i love those game, not exactly the vibe I'm looking for. any suggestions? I've played a lot of open world zombie games so maybe something a little under the radar would be best idk

Rimworld, adventuring out from your settlement. Also, I'd have said 7 Days to Die before Days Gone and Project Zomboid for what you're looking for specifically.

State of Decay 1 and 2 but you still have a base where you switch characters when one gets tired/injured.

>Dying Light (1 or 2, but probably more 1)
Underrated game. You are in a big city overrun with zombies; but they aren't that dangerous on their own, because they're slow and stupid. The real danger comes from accidentally getting cornered, or at night. At night, "Volatiles" come out to hunt-they are faster and stronger than you for most of the game.

The game is heavily based around improvised weapons and parkour; you are a runner, exploring and doing various missions in the city. At night, the only "safe zones" are places that use UV light to repel the zombies; these can be anything from apartment blocks converted into forts, or just tiny little apartments/hiding places with a couple of UV lights to barely keep the zombies at bay.

Lots of missions/activities are designed to have you be really pressed for time with the sun setting, so you have to figure out where the nearest safe zone is-otherwise you'll be creeping around/hiding and hoping nothing spots you.
