It gives the game the feeling of adventure and exploration. If you don't like walking for long periods of time in games that's okay, Ocarina of Time isn't for you. But that doesn't make it a bad game, it just means it's a different experience, one that's meant to be more immersive.

You're being too literal. Zoomer now just means "doesn't like old things and is culturally illiterate when it comes to anything older than a decade." Just like Boomer means the opposite, and most "Boomers" are actually Millennials.
The responses to that post are quintessential Zoomer reactions ("I didn't get the reference and ended up getting trolled, but that's A GOOD THING, Actually"), attempting to reframe ignorance as a virtue, because god forbid we miss an opportunity to have yet another "popular old thing bad" thread. OP was doing something much more interesting, and the failure to appreciate that makes one a Zoomer, at least in spirit if not literally.
And don't even try to say that missing the reference on purpose and taking the bait ironically is the play here. Zoomers never discovered the art of counter-trolling.
>most of them probably agreed with Brentalfloss
The Zoomer Brentalfloss would actually be saying that BotW sucks and OoT was better. I doubt most have even played LttP.

I like Potatotonigger's take on the game basically saying it's overhyped and overpraised far beyond the point any game could live up to and it's retarded to judge it by those impossibly high standards, but it's still enjoyable today as it was back when it came out.

That's precisely what "ages badly" means anon. At the time it was a minor inconvenience because you didn't know better. Nowadays in a time when its standard for every game to give you direct control of the camera and the ability to jump at any time so you don't feel rooted to the floor you suddenly realise how restrictive it is.

I always laugh to myself whenever an underagedb& calls me or anyone a "Boomer" online because I can't help but imagine how insecure whimp they must be irl. Not only was it not even the best game released that year, it also wasn't the best N64 game released that year. However, the game cost $59.95 in 1998 which is $118 today.

It made Nintendo $455 million dollars (896 million today)

Hopefully I'm not dealing with ACfag here.
The game's got some clunk, but in retrospect it's really not as bad as you're making it out to be and that you either don't like grounded adventure games or you're autistic and hate games with minor limitations -- likely both. Also if you're willing to criticize OoT just based off that than you'd also have to agree that tank controls in RE vidya is also "dated".

Also since the PC port exists it's essentially become a non-issue now.
Even reimplementing the jump button back into the game just makes the platformering even more awkward and only serves it's purpose of hopping over small ledges, so it was a good decision that Nintendo decided to remove it.

Yes and no. It is a mark of the times and there's a reason Capcom refuses to make a game like that now. But at the same time there was a benefit to it. There's a reason you see indies try to do old style fix camera horror still. It lent great for the horror atmosphere. Indies making games that are a homage to classic 3d zelda do just cut the crap and let you control the camera because there's really no reason for that restriction.

Basically one genre's horror, where a restriction on your view and the claustrophobia of fixed camera works really well. The other's adventure, where you really would want the player to be able to look around.

Put it like this. You want the player to be able to look around because they're having an adventure. You don't want looking around to be extremely awkward to do.

Also why are you accusing me of not playing the game if you're already anticipating me knowing you're referring to the shitty first person cam?

You might as well just admit you're a pretentious Zoomer when your whole argument that OoT's "aged badly" boils down to "but it's le clunkyyyy".

That same argument applies to RE too with it's awkward controls and fixed camera angles that take a half second to load the next jpg, but hypocritically you gave that a pass based off it's immersive presentation.
In that same vein, OoT's camera adds to the immersion too, because switching to first-person puts you in Link's shoes for a bit and it's a slow placed game where you're meant to take your time and be aware of your surroundings. Granted I'd argue the game's environments and puzzles aren't that complex or it's world that dangerous as something DeS/DaS, but it was a start and the somewhat restrictive camera worked to the game's advantage, more or less. Interestingly, Shiggy originally wanted the game to be in first-person. Bet you wouldn't have bitched about the camera then.

I played it as a kid, therefore it's the greatest video game ever made and to this day no other game has come anywhere near it in terms of quality. For as long as I live, no matter how good a new game may be, I will never recognize it as superior to the game I played when I was 8.

Get with the program and acknowledge it as the greatest game ever made or fuck off, zoomie. Games from the millennials' childhoods must stay at the top of the "greatest games ever made" lists in perpetuity.

Ocarina of Time is well regarded because the gaming medium started to become corrupted because of how good it is.
Similar to the Beatles, the greed of OoT ankle-biters ruined gaming
There have been relatively few emotionally honest video games made by professionals over the years , sure you got RE4, Kingdom Hearts, Age of Empires II
but overall a highly coordinated team is most likely going to put out slop because they have no soul

Then you don't think that way you goddamn retard. It's the greatest video game ever made. You assess it as if you're playing it in 1998. It doesn't fucking matter if you think it isn't as good in current year. It was fucking incredible in 1998 and so you can't say it isn't now.

Clunkiness is how a lot of old games end up aging yes. Put this in perspective though. I don't consider Link To The Past clunky and think it aged better.
>but hypocritically you gave that a pass based off it is immersive presentation.
Yes it is in fact different when it lends to the genre in question. Already explained that.

>because switching to first-person puts you in Link's shoes for a bit
Nah it just draws attention to how awkward the first person camera is.

> Interestingly, Shiggy originally wanted the game to be in first-person. Bet you wouldn't have bitched about the camera then.
I'm guessing it would have been like GoldenEye control-wise which definitely aged in its own regard. Being stuck with a controller with just one stick was always going to be a problem.

Played it for the first time last year as never played a Zelda or had an N64. It's alright. 7/10
Nice music, dungeons are fun, nice feel and aesthetic, good level design.
Combat and bosses are pretty braindead though.

It must have been incredible playing as a kid in 98 though. Mogs pretty much every childhood game I played at the time on PS1 except for MGS1.

The hyrule field complain is ridiculous. First of all, its really small, you reach any destination super fast, specially because they main ones are all close to each other.
But also, and this is the part that is never mentioned, its practically optional! The game has instant travel through the Ocarina.
Any time you see someone insist on Hyrule field, you know they are just desperate.
