I beat this game once. It's dumb hard, especially towards the end. There was also that remix mod that amped up the combat by a fuck ton. Pretty fun stuff. I skimmed a lot of the lore bits but I feel like there's some interesting stuff there. Algae monsters and reactivated dead guys turned into cannon fodder are cool ideas. Also the destroyer snake scream scared the shit out of me the first time
>>717522705
It's hard on the player regarding ammo management and health, but it feels, sounds, and looks REALLY good when you're shooting shit.

Trick is to spam your knife on all of the tiny enemies you fight, you also have to angle yourself because the knife comes out on either your L or R side, I forget. Don't use guns until later on. Also eat all the meat since you can heal yourself to 150 hp max. Cans also come in handy for canguns if you fucked up and need to kill everything in front of you. Also there's secret rooms you can find if you hug walls and notice light passing through

It's maybe the hardest game I know. Cool. I like what it looks like. The controls are original but intuitive. The enemy-types are kinda samey design-wise and can be hard to differentiate.
And it's locked to 30fps.

There's two humanoids with guns that are a bit hard to differentiate at first, there's an orange soldier guy and a light orange scientist guy? I think and they both had smgs or machineguns

Magebane 2
Magebane 2
md5: 9eec5f3764f27275971ea8c74d535679🔍
Can someone help me find an old freeware game?
It's a bit mysterious because it was titled "Magebane" (I believe), but it looks nothing like Instant Kingdom's "Magebane".
It was, however, very similar to Instant Kingdom's "Magebane 2", you control a wizard from the top down and you move through screen like zelda 1 and kill hundreds of monsters coming in waves.
Your stats are the four medieval humoralism fluids (Choleric, Phlegmatic, Melancholic, Sanguine).
It's a shot in the dark, does noone remember?

I liked how disorienting it is when you're turning corners and running away from enemies, you bump into walls a lot when you first play. And the way the walls extend upward into the camera view to look 3d is neat

The visual style is cool, but I think they should have been able to tell that it'd makes it more fitting to have really clear designs (though I guess it's also kind of a horror game?). Like for huma-sized ones, you should probably only have like one slow (with a ranged weapon) one and one fast one.
>>717524535
Yep, It's why I got it, back when. I always enjoy playing it, Still wish the framerate got uncapped, or someone else copied all the good things about the game seeing as the dev doesn't seem to be thinking about it.

100% agree. That 30fps cap doesn't matter much until you're deep into a clusterfuck room where 6 mutants and 3 gun zombies roll out of a vent at once, and suddenly you're praying the input delay doesn't get you mulched. Honestly think the low framerate kinda adds to the clunk-and-panic aesthetic though - everything feels held together with duct tape and bio-waste, just like the lore.

I haven't looked at the other game but teleglitch isn't really ugly. I think the simplicity and color palette work in its favor for the most part.

A game that might be for this thread:
https://store.steampowered.com/app/340490/Subterrain/
Note that I fucking HATED it, but it starts off really well: It's basically ResEvil on a Mars station, with much more survival elements to it. Sounds cool, right? Well it is, for the first ~3 in-game days (45-120 minutes game time). Then the game starts ramping up the difficulty and spawns something fierce, to the point where your shitty peashooters (that break after one magazine fired) can't even deal with them. It basically becomes a "flee from everything" until you can find better weapons. Which you do, after a while. So you can at least deal somewhat with the opposition but at this time the spawns have become meme-tier so every fucking single 3x4ft cupboard you open spawns 3 giganiggermutants, 4 insect queens (that continue to spawn additional insects) and the 20-30 run of the mill mutant enemies that show up every time you open a goddamn door.
This might be up /v/'s "hardcore gamer" alley, but I had to put on the Doom OSTs just to get through the second half of the game...

It's hard af, but in a "fair" way: If you're careful you can scout and avoid some of the shit and there's a lot of stuff to learn how to handle. It's a bit like Noita in that way.
I should add that I've beaten basically everything in Noita, multiple times, while I could never get past the 4th-5th map in Teleglitch.

I've beaten it a couple times. I even did the achievement for beating it without using any of the revive item.
It's certainly difficult but I feel like people are overselling it just a little bit. As long as you play slow and know where the boss spawns are and prepare consumables for them they aren't that bad. Unless you miss your panzerfausts, which is surprisingly easy to do.

Kinda sounds as if you've missed the whole tech tree mechanic. It never struck me as difficult until the very last boss in the geodome area. It is very dull and repetitive, you are just grinding out damage numbers with zero nuance or variance to the gear.
