Sony's mistake was believing that the Fifa, Madden and Call of Duty players would also play Sony's first party games.

half of sony profit comes from microtransactrions in online slop games, the other half from the entire catalog of games both exclusive and third party
in the grand scheme of things exclusives are irrelevant

That's because you have no idea what he actually did and I don't blame you, because a lot of the stuff he did are scattered across hundreds of articles and interviews, many of which are untranslated.

Add to this that they almost certainly think those untapped audiences will spend more (almost certainly wrong), and their preexisting core audience is locked in and won't ever jump ship, even if they're no longer catered to properly.

Avowed, SoM, Doom and Grounded 2 all released this year. We still got GoW and Indiana Johnes DLC coming but Hellblade 2 also just got a super hard mode that also makes the lie of the game ending rot from the first an actual real mechanic.

Some of them do. Ultra normalfags who play GTA, Madden, FIFA, COD, Destiny etc. do dabble in Sony's AAA games. Both are normalfag core, just to different levels.

The problem is Sony's movie games aren't expanding the PlayStation's audience aymore. The PS install base has been stuck at 115m~ for the last 3 generations. So their audience isn't expanding, and game budgets continue to skyrocket since ultra-realistic AAA games are a inflationary moneysink. That's one of the reasons they're trying to launch service games; MTX print money for successful ones. But the market is oversaturated, like 19/20 service games are absolute failures that waste hundreds of millions

The Western AAA industry is in a dire fucking state. Squeezed by greedy companies that turned the industry into corporate Hollywood since the 7th gen. And modern developers are creatively bankrupt and focus way too much on story shit rather than actual GAME DESIGN fundamentals.

He's not even predicting. He's literally just commenting at how the onset of the 3d and cd era, there were people getting all hyped up about fmv cutscenes, and prerendered 3d backgrounds that costed a fuckton. For every game like FF7 that went all-in on the high production costs of these kinds of game, there was another that led to massive deficits and bankruptcies. Even Square's Hironobu got drunk off of this success and helped lead his company into the massive loss that was the FF movie Spirits Within.

SNOY was always just a piece of shit middle man nothing more
never famous for any games they produced.
Never forget how they tried to gobble up Nintendo with the shittiest deal in history with the SuperFamicom CD.
Yeah bro we get all the software sales profits and control the software approval process while you get to live off hardware unit sales.
We really should have kept SEGA around instead of this stupid fraud mega corp...

Sony basically announcing their intent to port away more exclusives.

>>717528712
You'd think so, but exclusives have a very psychological effect. Part of the reason Xbox never recovered from the Xbone reveal no matter how attractive the platform became with Game Pass was because it didn't have any exclusives to speak of after a certain point. All of them got ported to PC, with some even going to PS and Switch. There's literally no reason to buy an Xbox in 2025 because you can get all of its games on other platforms.

And in time, people will say the exact same thing about Playstation. Then all that MTX will dry up as people stay on PCs for their live service slop.

but they didn't start to port them yesterday, we made almost an antire way through a generation already and everyone is fine with it
sony has a monopoly on the home consoles since xbox is pulling out and people already built their physical/digital libraries in their ecosystem

Game & Watch is even crazier when you realize the company was heavily in debt at that the time, and he still funded Yokoi's weird idea even though Yokoi had neither experience nor expertise at designing electronics, much less electronic handhelds.

PS5 already had lots of momentum by the time the ports started. Furthermore, they've been late ports so far, with select games still not making it to PC(yet.)

PC is growing more than PS. People discovering it's an all around better deal, and you're gonna see that more and more without strong exclusives to entice people over to PS.
