Who else even is there? Which major developer is there that could muster any claim to that title? Squeenix has no idea what the fuck to do with FF, they keep trying to reinvent it as some wacko action title, and DQ has never been particularly popular outside of Japan, so they're barely even in the running.

A lot of it was just reducing friction while producing solid games. The biggest problem JRPGs had was that they weren't "exciting" for normalfags. Atlus managed to ramp up the excitement while still keeping the core game at a decent level for core JRPG fans.

The battle in the webm is a generic mob battle after you already beat them a couple times with advantage, which SHOULD be fast and simple. There's no point in dragging it out.
You forget that:
>on first battle you don't know any weaknesses so you have to just fire blindly
>you have to get Persona/party composition that has all the elements the enemies might have
>you have limited MP for a dungeon, and managing it is a major part of fighting
>if you start battle with disadvantage or do something retarded, it is entirely possible for a generic mob to wipe you out, since they get all the same benefits from elemental weaknesses that you do, this would be impossible in many other games
>fusing good personas is a fairly involved activity that makes your life a lot easier
>bosses exist and they often either don't have weaknesses or it's assumed that you're hitting weaknesses every turn in their moveset and health bar
It's not like it's the most involved combat system ever, and it's noticeably simplified from Press Turn, but saying it's not involved because there are weaknesses just misses everything around them.

-Combat where you actually have to prepare your party, and then pick the right commands and can't just hold down the attack button.
-In order to level up, tedious grinding/combat was replaced with a Social/life simulation, where you actually get to hang out with your party members and do fun stuff, see them develop. (this has now been imitated by everyone from Falcom to Intelligent Systems, but they have no idea how to make it work like atlus does).
