reminder that both fifty shades of gray and lolita are tragic stories about abuse
and that nobody who read them care about its actual theme
they just took what they wanted from those books

this is called death of the author, and autistic people like OP are unable to comprehend this concept that goes beyond their IQ

It's not deep in the slightest. A snake creates venom. Wooooooah.

The game's issue is that it was butchered.

Ground Zeros was clearly the actual prologue, but was split off and sold standalone. Survive was clearly an online component that should have been in V, but was split off and sold standalone. Then you have V, which feels incomplete; you have to retread missions, no real conclusion, all the content that got cut, easter eggs that'll never unlock, etc.

deep isn't the right word, i would say esoteric, Lynchian. MGS fans are used to every single possible plot point being overexplained at least 2 or 3 times so the fact that so much of this game is vague or straight up uncomfirmed and requires knowledge of all the previous games and their themes to piece together probably doesn't sit well with the oldheads.

Like the opening mission of V is phenominal. But it's really the only "MGS" thing about the game. It's a great stealth/action section. But the rest of the game? Large open desert with a small shanty base.. That you'll have to go to 3 or 4 times.

And the fucking credits after every. fucking, mission. My God.

V, if Kojima's vision had been completed, would have probably been an amazing game. But GZ and Survive being split out to recoup costs, then the whole falling out, and then releasing V in an unfinished state was just the nail in the coffin for the game. Lots of great ideas and fun lore elements, amazing gameplay, great engine, but it being unfinished is what killed the appeal.

well when i say Lynch i really mean stuff like Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive and The Return where there's so much shit that isn't explained in those, a lot of it is about that empty space between you and the artistic medium and the things that your mind creates as you play and think about the story and characters. the point of Mulholland Drive is the puzzle, it's not meant to be explained, it's just this weird thing that your brain thinks about and tries to solve, that experience IS Mulholland Drive as much as that feeling of loss, emptiness and trying to get more is The Phantom Pain.

i disagree. while there are large parts of unexplained narrative to TPP, the commentary the piece makes is still very much there. it isn't some puzzle that is indecipherable nor is the entire point of the thing to dwell on the puzzle and keep you lost in the maze of meaning. which is why it is more cronenberg - the audience learns just enough to piece together the message of the work while there are enough loose ends to keep them wondering about the piece long after.

he partially does, but only in the interim between 2 and 4. there is no point in mgs2 where raiden wrestles control away from his handlers. raiden completes his programming by killing solidus, that was all part of it. the final monologue with snake is snake trying to tell him to break free, not that raiden was free yet.

i didn't say it was indecipherable, it absolutely is solvable, but it's still meant to invoke a very particular emotion and thought pattern and that's the core of the experience, the feeling Venom has of being lost in his own identity and the endless mundanity of war.

nope, not at all. people who tell you that MGSV exists only to fill a plothole (that wasn't even a plothole, really) from 25+ years earlier are stupid people who would rather let their logic be ruled by cynicism than actually take the time to think about the plot. and like many recent kojima games, those same people haven't done the proper required reading to understand what kojima is talking about in the games because they view that required reading as "cringe". as a small example, they will not have done any research into MK Ultra. they might know what it is, but they relegate information about it in their minds into schizo territory that should be dismissed.

blatantly wrong for lolita. i don't know about grey, but everyone who has read (or even heard of) lolita knows that it is a tragic story about a deeply disturbed person.
>this is called death of the author
barthes argues that individual interpretation is more important than the author's intent. meaning that one should separate the creator from their work and to just let it speak for itself. how does this relate to mgs5?

Have you read Lolita? Not even mentioning the sham of a story where he turns into Adam Jenssen at the end and kills like 10 people in a mansion and gets away with it, the level of detail and imagery in prose which he goes into regarding the sexual acts do not make it seem as if it matches that theme. In fact, I completely understand why people see it as a glorification. You can just tell the cocksucker author put himself in the story as the irascible Humbert Humbert. Not even mentioning at the end of the story, Dolly is in dire straits, but what happened to humberg? Literally nothing, no consequences for a single one of his fuckinh actions. But why am I even going on about this shit? Considering I doubt any of you have ever read this. Btdubbs don't bother.

i mean that the prose is all humbert. the way he describes everything happening around him is an extension of his character.
>He still doesn't face any consequences for his actions
iirc he dies in prison at the end. maybe it isn't enough of a punishment for him, but he does at least die. do remember that he's in a position of power over dolores, especially after charlotte dies.
>You and I both know the reason people advocate for this book here.
