I think constant performance and graphical issues really should be more of a concern when rating games.
But the "overabundance of instant fail stealth sections" is even more of a concern IMO. I can probably handle technical issues, but annoying gameplay should absolutely take points off from a game. Especially if it keeps happening and never improves.

Obviously the game can't compete with modern tech like RT, Lumen, Nanite but contrary to Mafia 4 when MGS5 released it had both cutting edge graphics and ran smoothly. I'm actually tempted to get this. Mafia 1 is one of my all-time favorites from my childhood and I quite liked Mafia 2 as well, played that when it came out. Didn't play Mafia 3 because I couldn't care about it but this reminds me a lot of Mafia 1 from what I've seen.

The reports of horrendous performance are keeping me from pulling the trigger, even though I have a 4090 so I assume I'd be fine enough despite having a 4k screen, as long as I'm willing to use DLSS.

My problem with Mafia is there's no fucking game. No, I don't count slowly walking/galloping/driving with an NPC as they dump dialogue on me as gameplay. 2 hours in and like 10 minutes of actual gameplay. A forced stealth tutorial segment, "boss" knife fight where you lose, forced knife tutorial, and the horse race that is nearly impossible to lose because the enemy AI slow down at the end, then the first real knife fight. I get that it's linear, but god damn.

OH MY FUCKING GOODNESS - this game is everything I dreamed of as a Mafia fan! 3ish hours in, the romance, this beautiful Sicilian countryside, these knife fights, Enzo is so dreamy, the cast is unreal... I am in love. Like yeah, we got the stealth mechanics that feel a little heavy handed and rote, but the emphasis on the knife is awesome. So many cool callbacks for fans of the franchise, the mission pacing and structure is to die for - the art direction, good god almighty.

The subtleties in the facial animations, the colors, the way the dust kicks up as you're riding, the explorable locales to pick up notes and guns in between missions - they have fucking NAILED IT. Bravo to the game devs, I don't know how this story is going to turn out but its like every piece of the mission designs from 1/2/3 that are just hitting in all the right ways.

Jesus Christ. The only hope here is that they benchmarked it with everything maxed out. According to the test it's a very GPU-heavy game, almost any decent CPU is enough for it and it only goes above 9-10GB VRAM at 4k. My bet is on a few resource hog settings that could significantly decease your FPS on their own, but if they're enabled at the same time they absolutely murder your performance together. If the traversal stutters are indeed not as bad maybe they're not completely amateurs when it comes to UE5. I'm curious how much the performance tweaks and guides can get out of the game as it is now, then after 2-3 patches.

Just binged it in a 13 hour session on hard. It has a decently written story up until the end. The Ending feels rushed as fuck and seems like it's missing like an hour or two. The Knife fights were pretty cool and the soundtrack is kino. Actors/Characters are good for the most part. 7/10 game. Made me hate Sicilians and their stupid "Code of Honor" shit even more. Glad I killed every single one I could.
