Here is how it went for me starting from when the Dreamcast died

Dreamcast -> GameCube (would have went Xbox, but no way parents would buy that and then pay yearly for online, plus no Sonic Adventure) -> Wii/DS -> Wii U -> PC.

Basically I jumped to Nintendo. I played my friends' and roommates' 360s so I never felt the need to get one of my own. Plus I liked the Wii for what it was and it was all I really needed especially with the Virtual Console (and I never hated the motion controls). I bought Wii U on potential, but nobody knew how to make games for it or utilize its potential leaving only the ridiculous Xbox One or the PS4. I went to PC and never looked back.

I really don't think Nintendo fans should be celebrating. Not even because it means "Nintendo has no competition" or whatever, but because with both Xbox and PlayStation putting their games on everything (including their own platforms), they are going to raise and accelerate the technological expectations of games. More devs will invest their time on taking advantage of PS6 and Xbox Prime (PC) hardware for their games which will be so far ahead of what the Switch 2 is doing that devs will continue to treat the Switch 2 as second class. 3rd parties are already treating it as such and sales are providing them more reason to continue the treatment. It doesn't help that Nintendo's fans online yell at them about game key cards when it was the 3rd parties themselves who requested them. Back on topic a bit, worse still is that we know PlayStation and Xbox will use their respective consoles as the absolute bare minimum requirements for their game (even if it's the PS5 or Series X next generation for cross gen games) and they aren't going to be optimizing their games for Switch 2 if it can't be done easily and cost effectively. 3rd parties will follow suit. Don't expect the newest Spiderman, TES VI, God of War, Forza 6, the next TLOU, Halo 6, even Death Stranding 2, GTA VI or anything like them on Switch 2. It will be for Mario, Zelda, Splatoon, Pokemon and maybe one or two 3rd party indie games (that will also be available on PS/Xbox/PC and elsewhere) that "does well" on Switch 2 but still doesn't touch Nintendo's 1st party numbers. Once that ceiling hits, it's basically done.

Long and short, PlayStation and Xbox going in this direction is a good move for literally everyone except Nintendo. Especially with kids and teens looking more at phone games and games that are cross platform so they can play with their friends on whatever device they have. PS and Xbox are playing the smarter game with this.
