>>717558610It predates all of those things, zoomfag

>>717558662>>717559146>>717559454Now weโre cooking with gas. I fucking love these kinds of games. Not a horror game, but has anyone on /v/ played Curio City? The most popular issue has 1.5K downloads on Internet Archive, but there have to be a few people hereโฆ
>>717557423 (OP)The imagery of this game just disturbed me in the back of my mind since I saw it in the computer store as a kid. The box actually folded out like this. I really wanted to play it but I didn't dare ask my mom to buy me the game with the woman on the cover grabbing her tits while shooting someone. I just found that it has a gog release a couple years ago too.
>>717557423 (OP)>only 1000 steam reviewsI thought this one was more well known these days, it's definitely a really good one, I don't want to post and screenshots because most of them look like spoilers, go in blind.
>>717559454Does this game have an English patch?
Apparently the sequel Chu Teng got an english patch, but the link is down now...

>>717560608These versions have cringey achievements and shit too

>>717560303Oh hey I have that on my to play list, neat
>>717560716>not on switchI stand corrected, looks like it came out last year. I don't actually know anything about videogames
>>717560303I just watched a full video review/retrospective on this game and spoiled literally everything for myself. To be honest, it seems pretty cringey, even for the time
>>717560940I didn't play it until a couple of years ago, I thought it was really good for what it was, it's not some Matisse painting or anything but it's just lame to outright spoil the "scary" moments by just looking up the game.
>>717561250I didn't really see anything that scary, but the little sister dying bit seemed really sad
white chamber was huge back when it came out in the peak deviantart era, but i think it's mostly been forgotten. the steam release only has like 70 reviews
>>717561457Never heard of this. Awesome
>>717561581I remember playing this way back when since it was on the /v/'s recommended games wiki before it got compromised. The only thing I remember plot-wise is what happened at the end, and the "joke" ending.
>>717561581I think I remember this, wasn't it a flash game?
>>717562420I think this was whole genre that barely left japan. I played the english TL of one called "R?MJ: The Mystery Hospital", all the FMV was done in an ancient 3d animation program and the story was super wack, was pretty funny in a bad horror movie kind of way though.
>>717557423 (OP)Go play 0_abyssalNowhere on Itch.io right now
>>717562685>0_abyssalNowhereI'm such a retard. It's actually named 0_abyssalSomewhere. Shill failed
>>717559610>Curio CityNo, but that reminds me a lot of LAUNCH, the cd rom magazine that shipped with new macs in the 90's in the US. In the one I had you could talk with the members of the dead band Blind Melon and also the Cranberries, I didn't listen to that shit but you could click on the band members and they'd do funny stuff. There were also tons of weird games about Americana and the trailers to some shitty movies. It also came with good demos, just look at that, Dark Forces AND Sim Tower? Those CD-ROM magazines were good shit back then. I need to get Sheep Shaver working and figure out how to load up the ones I never saw.
>>717557423 (OP)The Pink Valley is a relitively new doom wad. Its mostly known for the extremely edgy 4 four levels but the later half of the game is one of the better horror games ive played. It actually managed to give me literal goosebumps that lasted most of my first playthrough
>>717562819Yeah, thatโs awesome. Thanks, anon. Was Dark Forces any good?
>>717563015Hell yeah it was, I got that for christmas after playing the demo.

Thanks based anon
>>717557423 (OP)Funnypizzaland isn't horror it's just pure comedy
anyway I'm surprised nobody has ever tried to translate the 2D version of the game that was made prior to the 3D version
>>717563664I could never get this fucking game to work on any pc.
Did you know they made a sequel? It was so rare that it wasn't even dumped until very recently.
https://archive.org/details/tripitaka_win_mac
>>717560303>>717560940why would you do that?
it's an atmospheric adventure point and click with a setting more interesting than it's "plot twist" would make you believe.
If anyone doesn't spoil themselves and want to try a point and click, i'd recommend it.
>>717561457It's not that obscure being a sequel to one of the best selling games of the year 7th Guest.
The puzzles in that sequel are more vexing than in the first game. But both play still really good with the only downside being the time you have to wait when you rotate the camera in the mansion.
Stauff is an excellent antagonist, the character is punchable and funny at the same time with his constant mockery of player actions.
>>717557423 (OP)Darkness Within: In Pursuit of Loath Nolder is a game definitely worth checking out if you aren't scared by point'n'click games. It's truly is a game the most resembling Lovecraft's story meaning it's a slowburner and you don't get to see scares often, but instead the atmosphere and the mystery keep you going.
>>717563927What was the 2d version called?
>>717564839It's $1.59 on steam right now. Nice
alisa is my favourite game released in a long time
if you like old resi but don't want a setting that is just resident evil again i recommend it
it's more dreamy and goofy
really looking forward to its standalone co-op expansion
I don't actually remember anything about it
I might go back and replay it again some time. It's been 13 years since I did
Unrelated, but if you like PS1 era first person horror check out Labyrinth of the Demon King. It wasn't my thing, but the couple of hours I played were pretty nice
>>717564341what is this thing and why do I keep seeing it
free resi style goofy horrorgame made by the kid who did the spaceman multiplayer game
https://store.steampowered.com/app/1570080/Dead_Seater/
Not sure if you'd really classify Marrow as a horror game, but fuck me it certainly hits a certain spot in my brain that horror games do.
Shame that the game isn't really well known, and that the dev seems to have dropped off the face of the earth unfortunately

Don't know if Yomawari series fits, but I have NEVER seen it being discussed or mentioned here.
The only thing you need to know before playing is that all 3 games are Jap-folklore based so you'll see no aliens or mutants, only yokais, ghosts and little girls suffer in the night.
>>717565856I've been curious about it but it seems way too kawaii to be kowai
>>717560608>n....nooo my sekret vidya game club!!!Remaster for these games are nice because we don't get games like this anymore, it's cool to see the OG creator back and active on twitter, I hope he continues to make games from the success.

https://dead-code.org/home/
>>717568427>>717568701Genuinely no one knows what's going on with it. Seemingly it's either that some autist did in fact register the dead IP and hired legal bodies in the US and UK to handle it, or someone more connected with the game itself given the US name connected to the takedowns ended up being a lawyer who fucked up and leaked a copyright document that showed whoever registered it had actual development material and planned for a potential rerelease.

>>717569594>AgarthaActually went into this a while back since I liked the aesthetic. There are currently four builds out there for download with one of them being corrupted (and maybe repaired by now?) It seemed like it was going to focus a lot on choices and heavy on narrative with the gameplay taking a lot after Alone in the Dark since the director actually was the creator of that series. Got canned the same year SEGA announced the Dreamcast would be discontinued since it was a SEGA of Europe studio working on it. People fucked with it hard enough to fix up a rom to show off all the stuff from the different versions - reminds me a lot of how people are with the Half-Life 2 beta.

>>717566138>I've been curious about it but it seems way too kawaii to be kowaiAs I said all 3 games are J-Horror, so they're not Amnesia The Dark Descent-tier spooky "I'm going to shit my pants and scream now", they're mostly psychological like Silent Hill. The 2nd game is especially cruel in this sense, but I won't spoil the story here.
>>717560608What's wrong with a video game becoming more accessible? Not like dumbed down for casuals or whatever, but being made readily available on modern hardware and storefronts.
>>717570132It reminds me of Kona. The way it takes place in canadian frozen hellhole that's it. Should probably go around to finish that game. Last time I stopped after leaving the gas station, so round a hour into the game.
>>717560608If you think this but you emulate these games then you're an absolute clown as emulation literally makes these games available for everyone to experience (and that's a good thing)
If you think this but you actually bought limited copies, then you're also a clown for shilling hundreds on a game deluding that you'd be one of the only 3000 people in the world to experience its exclusivity
>>717571262Kona is pretty good. The sequel isn't as good as the first though but the opening half is solid.
>>717569258damn im glad im not a tard who makes myself angry
Basilisk 2000, I guess? More of a puzzle-adventure type of deal than outright horror, aside from one specific part.
It's pretty cool and sad that it's the only game I know of that operates through use of a dev kit to explore it.
>>717569276lmao that's the best you could latch onto? You got outed bud
>>717574561Any relation to the Basilisk's thought experiment?

Scratches' devs recommend pic related an say it was inspiration for Scratches so it probably worth checking out although being described as "Myst-style" make me fear I might be too stupid for its puzzles.
>>717577553I really enjoyed Dark Fall. I have the sequel, but haven't played it yet. You'll be fine, the puzzles require a bit of note taking, but it's nothing too esoteric or tedious.
>>717578101Sometimes I forget some older games actually assume you'll be taking notes on your own.
>>717557423 (OP)This game is absolute kino
>>717567949For a game where nothing happens for 99,9% of the game, it had some of the scariest atmospheres ever created.
>>717557423 (OP)Its a really really bad time for obscure horror games, im a big horror game fan and searching for obscure stuff is way harder now, because the market is filled with hide-n-seek games that last like 1 hour at most.
> Aberrations is a video game that was released in 1997. To date, there are no records or mentions of the game available on the internet, aside from its premise and release date, which is noted in a 1995 catalog. The gameplay revolves around themes of occultism and explores the interactions between dark entities and the real world through the use of cameras and image generation technology, using real life ancient books about mysticism as the main base of the game. No more is known about it and it has never been auctioned online.
Anyone know about this?
