You will never be a teenager in the mid/late 90s on summer break finishing up your friday night shift at Blockbuster, getting into your 1990 Volkswagen Golf, speeding home to your parents place which they bought in 1980 for $60,000, heading quietly down to your wood-paneled bedroom in the basement and firing up your Pentium 166mHz with 32mb of ram installed and booting up Diablo to play online over Blizzard's Battle.Net service using your 56k dial-up connection.

A PC with 166MHz neevr had 32mb ram, you moron, these things had 8-16. That was the Standard, The first gamre who actually needed 32mb was Blade Runner.

When you larp as a 90s kid, atleast do it right.

Friday nights used to feel like pure magic. Grab some Hot Pockets, dim the lights, and hope mom doesnโ€™t pick up the phone while youโ€™re in the middle of a Baal run. The whirr of the CD drive spinning up was the sound of a whole weekend disappearing into clickfest bliss. God I miss that weird, dusty warmth.

OP here. I agree with you, anon. I'm constantly questioning myself whether that's just nostalgia or being a lot younger and more inexperienced in things you tended to be happy just for the novelty of the new experience.

No need to larp, I was there. Truth be told, I hadn't the slightest clue what my pentium 166 had as far as ram, so I just looked up the diablo 1 sys requirements and doubled it. So fuck right off faggot.

Zoomers have never seen it. Zoomers are born into a world that's entirely evil and shitty. No wonder they have mental health problems.

nostalgia is fucking crazy dude i remember gaming in the 90s and early 2000s on pc and it fucking sucked. yeah the games were kinda cool but the hardware? the internet connection speeds? holy fuck it was abysmal. Im so fucking glad to live in a time where i can have 100 mb/s download speeds, 32 gigs of ram, a 7900 XT and a 4k oled monitor because not only can i play new games i can play older games perfectly and seamlessly. Anyone who tells you that pc gaming used to be better than it is now is lying to you whether they realize it or not.

My memory of this time period lies mostly in Chrono Trigger and other SNES games I played at the time. I wasn't fortunate to be born into a family rich enough to own a computer that had Windows installed. I had to buy my own in 2006, and probably didn't play D2 on it until the year after that I really don't remember all that well.

I honestly don't know if computers were that slow or if I got more impatient dealing with slower computers every time I had gotten used to a faster one. It feels like in my memories about my own computer it never felt slow but whenever I had to use another that was older it felt so slow it was annoying to use.

Nowadays the slowness of windows file explorer drives me crazy.

factually wrong
a pentium II with enough ram (for the time) and a voodoo 2 card was a mfing BEAST
could play any game at any resolution any high end monitor could render
i had tons of fun end of 90s and beginning of 00s thanks to that
also CPUs could take MASSIVE overclocks if you knew what you were doing, and you had MASSIVE gains in FPS, could have a BEAST computer for relatively cheap
that was definitely the best time for pc gaming, and nobody even knew it at the time
could emulate any PSX game with bleem, and EASILY emulate any previous gen consoles, could play ALL THE GAMES of ALL TIME with ease

The only downside was having to carry your 20 kg monitor around for the lan parties

I don't think people who were borne around '85 realise how blessed they have been. Experienced most of the evolution of video games, every new generation was a marvel. The choice of games was insane, people were still experimenting with formats and gameplay. Even witnessed a world without internet.

Compare with people who were borne 10 years ago, all they experience is stagnation and technology as absolute scam fest, where everything new basically just serves to extract as much money from your pokets as possible while serving as little value as possible.
