Try out Pop Os, their cosmic DE variant is pretty cool (though it's bugs a bit curently)
Using it on my thinkpad x240 with 4gb of ram, for small and old games very good.

I do not recommend going on Archlinux from zero, unless you really want pain. (try Monjaro distro if you really want Arch based OS at least for start (it's still sucks))

Bazzite I don't use because it's Fedora based, which is cringe. (also Your pc might even not run this distro correctly, it's a bit not for old hardware) add more specs for post.

Ubuntu began its decline with the introduction of the Unity desktop, but when snaps were introduced in 2016 they also added a shit-ton of telemetry and this collectively represented the point where it was unrecoverable.
The last actually good version of Ubuntu was in 2008.
