There's something so scary about how the world didn't just move this phase, but cracked off of it and fell into the abyss like it was severed. It feels like we haven't so much progressed from this time period as we have melted off of it.

the net stagnated.
corporations tried to stabilize the internet so it could create monetary value, but in doing so they stopped ALL creation, because what if it harmed the advertisers? so now everyone is stuck copying each other to avoid being ignored by 'the algorithm' and end up lost like all the old internet culture.

In the United States, shareholders can sue companies that fail to make a profit. When someone who isn't a blue-haired college student is complaining about capitalism, they are complaining about how people with capital can use their capital to force others to give them more capital, by using their tremendous capital to control laws that govern the management of capital.

Never forget that the IRS ran out of money trying to sue Microsoft for billions of USD in back taxes between 2004 and 2013.

a lot of the 'value' isn't in direct clicks, its in building name recognition, which leads to increases in sales in general.
if you see shimano bike componants advertised on the side of a webpage, then need to go buy a bike seat for your kid, and you see a shimano seat, you're more likely to assign a higher value to that brand you've seen before.
its why you see lots of ads not advertising the product, but just getting the name out there.
e.g. i've never gone looking for jackoff tools, or anime, or anime jackoff tools, but i know about j-list, because i've seen hundreds of memes about the old banner ads, so i subconsciously trust them more than an unknown brand.
now imagine how much more effective it is to just repeat a brand name in a social media situation, and build up that same trust for cheap by just getting a bot to copy a previous post, add the brand to it, and shit it into forums, and social media sites 24/7

I could animate something like that over the weekend, but it seems kinda pointless, to be honest.

That old Newgrounds video has millions views, sure, but stuff like that doesn't blow up anymore. Certainly not on Youtube. Nowadays you need something very quirky, fast and short. And I don't even care about all that TikTok shit.

also, a lot of people aren't as poor discerning about buying shit online.
i have a co-worker who buys literally hundreds of dollars in collagen drink powder, and hair supplements, and fucking sugar crystal treats, all because they saw a pretty lady on instagram selling it.
every week theres a different new thing, which THEY try to sell, because thats what they've seen online.
then they find out what drinking 8 collagen drinks a day does to your guts, and they stop that one, and start another one.

DDR died with the release of 5thMIX, then its corpse was briefly reanimated for a few more games before it died again with EXTREME. Even if there's an argument to be made that SuperNova, 2013 and A were all decent reboots, they both had almost none of the identity of core Bemani games and just got progressively more soulless. It's tragic because beatmania and pop'n music are still doing fine outside of becoming a bit more weeb-centric.

It feels like SDVX is the focus now for Bemani. DDR is getting fucked by PIU and SMX in NA because Konami's business model is restrictive as shit, and every really good NA player is just on a home ITG setup by now anyway. I miss DDR since I'm not near a Round 1, I'm not as good at PIU and too much of SMX' track list is too normie to put on a ridiculous show for onlookers.

It should not take me 20-30 seconds to select a difficulty folder. Back in A/A20/A3 all I had to do was hit left and right and select by difficulty. Now if I want to browse the 16 folder I have to do all this stupid bullshit with the filters. It's not intuitive at all.

And besides that, this iteration of DDR is the most greedy iteration in terms of unlocks. You're telling me I have to pay 12 credits for 4 plays just so I can unlock a single song? And I don't even get the challenge chart so I have to pay ANOTHER three credits just for one chart? Not to mention the horseshit they were pulling with requiring purchasing DDR Grand Prix song packs to get access to new challenge charts in the arcade.

World killed my motivation to play DDR in the arcade. And it's a shame, because you're right. They've been releasing some fucking amazing charts lately. I'd just prefer to play them at home where I'm not Jew'd out of my fucking money constantly.

It's honestly fucking fantastic. It's not 100% accurate to the arcade pad, as it seems to use slightly thinner metal (I know for a fact the L brackets are thinner than the official parts). It's definitely lighter. And comparing it to an official arcade pad, you can feel the difference. It can probably be attributed to the fact that I only have a single pad, but the B2L doesn't feel as rock solid and sturdy as the arcade pads. However, it's not an issue in the slightest.

The thing is fucking amazing. Despite what I've said before about the differences, it feels just as good, if not maybe even better than arcade. And the best part is I can diagnose any problems like sticky panels or misfires on the spot. I don't have to let a tech know and hope that they come over to look at the pad.

The only thing I'd say about it is that it definitely needs some modding to get it to play how you want. I played it the second I set it up without any modding, and it played exactly like a stock arcade pad. Too recessed, not sensitive enough, but still playable. Once I spent a few weeks tape modding and tweaking the sensitivity, I got it in a spot that feels absolutely perfect.

I've had it for about a year, and I'm a high level player (I had the 14-16 PFC lamps before World hit, and I regularly play 17s and 18s). Despite the absolute fucking beating it's taken, it still plays like an absolute dream.

100000% worth the money if you've got the spare cash to blow.
