Wasn't this revived? There's this thing called the Rising Hub Project.

Just yesterday I was watching old Battlefield Heroes videos from youtube, I guess the new BF release made many remember the golden years.
Check out Heroes of Valor on steam, it looks pretty much the same as BFH but haven't tried it out yet.

Fyi, there's heroes of valour right now out on steam in early access, I played the beta, but it didn't have nearly enough maps and a functional matchmaking for a full release so I'm holding off on buying it.
Other than that it's a good successor to bfh

>shill
Because that game is bad and it was only good in the open beta because it was free. Nobody sane is paying money to play it.

Don't bother with Heroes Of Valor. Play the Rising Hub project.

There was more than one?

I remember the BF2 HTMLwrapper project ("Battlefield Online?") that was just Strike at Karkand until it was shut down.

Back then p2w live service multiplayer games were in its infancy in the west. People preferred to pay once to get a superior game than put up with overpriced microtransactions in a janky asset flip. I remember a few others that didn't live long, like Age of Empires Online, Ghost Recon Phantoms, or Battlefield Play4Free.
Nowadays it's almost unheard of to release a multiplayer-only game and demand an upfront payment.

I remember you could edit the local files for weapons and this would actually work. Used a shotgun to snipe people from the other end of the map.
