Both are correct.
RE4 was clearly inspired by The Thing and B-movies.
Dead Space is inspired by Event Horizon and Lovecraftian horror like, you guessed it, The Thing.
Both games feature extensive amounts of body horror.

But that's all high concept stuff, the most important part is that Dead Space builds upon RE4's over-the-shoulder gameplay.

DS had 2 great games, then went to shit. The REmakes had issues, but had great gameplay. DS remake just took an already great game and made it gay and ruined enemy animations and added some shitty cinematics in place of gameplay.
