Veterans leaving, and new blood not knowing the ins & outs because we have a culture that doesn't want to hand down the tricks & techniques they've learned over the years, because why would they, they're not being paid for it, and it'd make them even more replaceable in such a volatile job market.

Ukraine operated very big and capable supersonic jet Strategic bomber fleet at one point.

Well you see, fortune 500 companies hired 98% non-whites. Black people in America have a average of 85 IQ, IQ is distributed on a bell curve. This means that while 17% of the white population has 115 IQ or higher IQ, the ideal range for doing this sort of job well, only 2% of black people are in this range, the problem being even worse when you consider the lower population of black people.

So in short, games have gotten worse because developers are dumb. This happened as a result of Jewish investors wanting non-whites hired. Hope that clears things up OP, let me know if you have any other questions.

I think we've reached a graphical plateau where most people can't tell the difference between PS4 and PS5 games
unless developers are willing to invest a significant amount of money into graphics, like in RDR2, Alan Wake, or some sony titles

Not all studios can afford that, so they stick with PS4 level graphics (like RGG, FromSoft, IOI, or many Chinese action games).

So it's understandable that their games don't look as good as RDR2 or TLOU2.

But in this particular case, it's just sheer incompetence like with Rise of the Ronin. They should be able to do a better job with the tech and experience they have, even if they don’t have the same resources as Rockstar or Insomniac.

there was a big shift after 2016-2019, culturally and technologically. the problem is it wasn't for the better, all the people who knew what they were doing either quit, got fired or demoted. the people who remained thought the new technology would end up doing a bulk of the work so optimization went out the window, now everything is 720p upscaled with fake frames.

Nobody who really knows what they're doing gets forced out of the gaming industry, they're too valuable. They could burn a tranny flag in the break room and upper management wouldn't give a fuck.

The problem is that the growth of the industry has spread that anyone with that level of talent too thin, because there is only a small percentage of developers with the cognitive ability and math background to work on 3D engines.

i doubt there was even that much thought put into it. i think a lot of people in key decision making and hiring roles thought making games was way easier than it actually is, they probably thought they could diversify their workforce and the output would be more or less consistent.
one of the senior AI programmers from cdpr who was passed over for promotion and overworked until he quit has a website that detailed the working environment.
basically he got held down while they promoted DEI juniors past him, people who didn't actually know what they were doing, he was forced to double his workload trying to fix their fuck ups and then quit.

Sony's 1st party workflow should have just remained build for PS4, then crank up the eye candy/sliders for PS5.

Even if they have to get to the point where they mandate an SSD on PS4 (they're more than cheap enough at this point) to alleviate some of the stress of seek times.

China only recently got their Homegrown CPU's and GPU's to match western CPU's and GPU's from 15 years ago

it's easy to "go forward" at a fast rate when you already started 20 years behind everyone else and then try to steal their ideas for yourself, and even then they are forced to do this in "synthetic benchmarks" that don't translate to real world performance when put to the test

If america was on the bleeding edge it wouldn't have been ukranians/russians pioneering cheap shitty alibaba drone warfare which is the actual cutting edge. The USA can throw a bunch of money into a hole and then label that hole USA #1 but that doesn't mean anything. You can build a bee sized homing missile that can shave off an insurgents nosehairs but if it costs a trillion dollars it's not actually a good weapon.

There's a distinction to be drawn between cutting edge tech and what's effective tech in a given conflict, the latter being much more contextual. If you go make cutting edge drone bombs that cost 100x more for only 2x performance, they're logistically inferior weapons, but that's only relevant if you don't have effectively infinite military budget.

My image was retarded and hyperbolic, but the biggest issue is the way they use a lot of sprite work (hair is a bunch of sprite layers overlaid, foliage is sprite-based), and TAA/DLSS were planned from the beginning to hide some of the weirdness it presents. DLAA still looks pretty good, thougheverbeit.

>Why are graphics getting worse with each year?
Because you are judging graphics from compressed ShitTube footage, or from your 1080p display outputting FSR Performance.

Graphics are not developing nearly as quickly as they did in 2000-2012 but they are improving. Go play a game from 2013 and you'll realize the lighting and popin were a lot worse than you remember. (Texture quality however has not really improved)

I'm sorry but this is just apples vs. oranges for the Nth time. Ghost games are highly stylized with emphasis on lighting effects, vegetation, atmosphere etc, all while aiming at 60 frames per second on a base PS5. They will age much better than your generic UE5 crap and will play much better than your generic tech demo crap.

In the old days, we had specific shaders on GPUs. You had this many that can do X, and this many that could do Y or Z. Nowadays, they're programmable, which makes it so they have more flexibility in development. The shaders are different depending on your GPU, driver version, game version, and so on; so better games compile them ahead of time instead of subjecting you to a stutterfest as they're compiled on first use.

Unity was a broken game on release whose only redeeming quality was having good graphics, Forspoken is a broken shit game nobody takes seriously and nobody expected good graphics from it. I could just as easily take a 2015 game with shit graphics and compare it to Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora to make a dishonest claim about how graphics have massively improved.

DX10 stuff was the first to implement the Unified Shader Model, which is specifically what I'm referring to. The 360 did it before PC cards could, but on consoles, you can ship shaders with it.
Since shaders used were still simple with DX10 titles like Bioshock and Gears of War, they did on the fly compilation. The added complexity came down the road with DX11 and 12 and more advanced cards with a lot more shaders on board. The 8800GTX had 128 shader units, which meant programming them on the fly was relatively fast. The 5090 has 170 times that at 21760 shaders. It takes longer and doing it on the fly isn't optimal anymore.

SS:H2 was entirely linear, about 8 hours long and had combat about like an MMO. It also doesn't look nearly as good as people hype it to be, but that's entirely the fault of direction. Every single environmental texture is over-detailed because they wanted to showcase Nanite, and it ends up looking like noise in the textures. The charaacter model during gameplay is just "okay" compared to AAA UE4 games, and actually worse than what Decima does.

Graphics have visibly improved in the last 5 or so years. Not as much as they should have but they have still improved. You remember the bullshots from the mid 2010s that we used to see and say "yeah no way the game looks like this" now the best looking games look like that all the time.

I am growing increasingly annoyed by the amount of turd worlders online still playing at 1080p with all kinds of vile shit like FSR whining about their games not looking good and pretending some 2010 game that looks like a 2015 game has better graphics than 2025 games. What they should whine instead is that even when games look graphically simple they STUTTER which is a far worse problem. When a game still stutters even with a 9800X3D + 5090 there is something deeply wrong with the current model of game development.

you could do all this on unreal 5 as well, but there's huge trade offs these days. people want huge 4k textures, massive fuck off draw distances, etc. the new call of duty games all use baked lighting, which is one of the key reasons they're 12 billion gbs big. unreal engine 5's lumen is really, really cool technology for real time lighting and global illumination, only it's 100% unusable with the AAA pipeline of graphics bloat. there's also this insane "myth" that unreal 5 can't do baked lighting, yet when you load a new light in ue5, it literally defaults to baked. at the end of the day, games are funded by retards, made by retards, and for retards. the passion is completely gone, because what's there to be passionate about? being a good little soldier ant, and then getting axes without warning for a couple jeeters? people do the bare minimum until they're randomly fired.

Pretty much. The gaming industry really did become an industry with all the pros and caveats. Which leads into optimizing how much you can squeeze from p(l)ayers. I wouldn't be surprised if high spenders rates are coupled with low spenders but worse skills so that low spenders become high spenders in hopes of being better.
It's also no wonder why UE is being pushed. Why bother with an engine where only a small group of people know how it operates, and if they bring new blood they'd have to invest in them, which poses a risk. Compare that to people learning engines for free, on their own leisure time who, when they ask for a raise, can be easily replaced and/or outsourced.
But this mindset that's being settled and encouraged around the world is fully sociopathic and will be our downfall down the line.
Take for instance Youtube, nowadays you have people uploading AI generated videos with AI generated background noises with AI generated voices that narrate an AI generated script for the sole purpose of earning money. Or streamers that do the minimum of reacting to a video or article or if they feel daring in that day some manufactured drama & then upload or clip parts of their stream to youtube to double dip. And then you have blue checkmarks who also only post engagement bait about them. If low effort is being rewarded 100 times over high effort, why bother?
Or the people who fake their living standards because retards believe them and buy their course? Literally the "How to make money by selling books" book
Seeing constructions that can pass the test of time is a marvel to humanity, because nowadays it's encouraged and recommend to build soon to crumble buildings(but not TOO soon so people find out) just to have more buildings to build.

Unfortunately there isn't much else to solve this besides "be the change you want to see".

those are shader effects that evaluate every frame and process them individually. so I know for a fact they do not have "aliasing in motion" as they do not rely on motion or data from previous frames. they eliminate aliasing from every frame. Even better the game is so well optimized you can inject SSAA or use super resolution to get SSAA.

>Why are graphics getting worse with each year
The normalization of unoptimized games had the consequence of pushing supersampling and framegens as standard for anyone who doesn't renew their rig yearly.
Supersampling and framegen normalized letting a significant portion of the userbase stew in trash graphics.
Unreal worsened the issue by being an extremely accessible engine for even the most incompetent retards, which resulted in companies hiring the scum of the barrell for cheap rather than people who can actually develop a game.

>those are shader effects that evaluate every frame and process them individually. so I know for a fact they do not have "aliasing in motion"
You have genuinely no idea what you are talking about.
FXAA/SMAA not relying on motion or data from previous frames does NOT mean they remove aliasing in motion or that they eliminate aliasing from every frame. All it means is that they won't ghost or smear the way TAA does because they're not using leftover information from previous frames. But that's funnily enough the same reason why FXAA/SMAA cannot address aliasing in motion the way TAA does. Aliasing keeps happening when you turn them on because they're spatial antialiasing methods that cannot address temporal aliasing.

Do you think modern games omit FXAA/SMAA from the graphics menu because it's some of kind of conspiracy? They do it because FXAA/SMAA do nothing to adress the types of aliasing you see in motion now.

>what the fuck are you talking about? are you talking abotu frame interpolation
I am not talking about frame interpolation. I am talking about aliasing and the types of it.
SMAA/FXAA are spatial antialiasing methods. They primarily address spatial aliasing (primarily geometric aliasing) on a per frame basis and have no access to information from previous frames.
TAA is temporal antialiasing. It primarily addresses shimmering, specular flickering, shader flickering, visual noise, moire patterns, lack of subpixel information - aka visual issues because of the differences between each frame. That's temporal aliasing, happens during motion and happens more and more often as graphics become more advanced. This temporal aliasing is something FXAA/SMAA cannot address because they function on a per-frame basis, but TAA uses information from previous frames to fix them. A negative byproduct of using information from previous frames is the ghosting and smearing and softening TAA is famous for.

In Doom 2016 there's a lot of shader aliasing, specular flickering, and moire patterns. These DO NOT get solved by using FXAA or SMAA. They only get solved by TAA (which looks too soft and can ghost). The only good antialiasing solution in that game is TSSAA8TX which is basically TAA with 8x supersampling going on, much more performance intensive than anything else. It's not frame interpolation, it's antialiasing that happens over time instead of per each frame.

The fact I have to explain this to retards who are loudly outspoken about what is "correct" about rendering is mind numbing.

Moving to higher and higher definitions and "graphics settings" means you spend more time doing dumb bullshit like getting the definition up, then optimizing, then increasing the definition, and ALL of this is separate from what makes a game look good.
Assets don't make a game look good, art direction / style does. It has almost nothing to do with MUH GRAPHICS because at the end of the day it's about takings scenes, making them fit together, and making them look good.

we've been playing games with SSAA, FXAA for years there are no magical ghost frames with aliasing.
there is sometime slight subpixel color mixing varions between frames that are not 100% realistic to how they would look in rel life but this is not aliasing nor is it noticeable or a problem.

NO. It's because your doghit fake modern graphics are not even made properly.
when this is how you're rendering hair, you need to throw your whole engine in the trash and start again.

it's not the job of AA to fix your shit grainy artefacts. You need to start over and program effects not to render as shit grainy artefacts in the first place.

What compels people on this website to just outright deny reality to this degree? TAA works that way. If you don't trust Epic or DF then read elsewhere.

https://docs.godotengine.org/en/latest/tutorials/3d/3d_antialiasing.html
>Temporal antialiasing works by converging the result of previously rendered frames into a single, high-quality frame. This is a continuous process that works by jittering the position of all vertices in the scene every frame. This jittering is done to capture sub-pixel detail and should be unnoticeable except in extreme situations. This technique is commonly used in modern games, as it provides the most effective form of antialiasing against specular aliasing and other shader-induced artifacts.
>Fast approximate antialiasing is a post-processing antialiasing solution. It is faster to run than any other antialiasing technique and also supports antialiasing transparency. However, since it lacks temporal information, it will not do much against specular aliasing. This technique is still sometimes used in mobile games. However, on desktop platforms, FXAA generally fell out of fashion in favor of temporal antialiasing, which is much more effective against specular aliasing. Nonetheless, exposing FXAA as an in-game option may still be worthwhile for players with low-end GPUs.
https://www.cryengine.com/docs/static/engines/cryengine-5/categories/23756816/pages/26872518
>SMAA is an efficient post-processing based technique that can reliably detect and smooth edges in an image. While it works very well in removing jaggies and staircase artifacts from edges, it does not solve the problem of temporal aliasing, where individual pixels and entire edges can flicker when in motion. To address those issues, CRYENGINE has pioneered the use of highly efficient temporal filters that take information from previous frames to improve the stability of subpixel features that would otherwise crawl and flicker in a very obvious way.

The Indie scene. If you have the skills, and enjoy making games, why work for a giant company? Indie games allow for far more creative freedom even if you have to work in a small team (since the director/lead dev usually has to bend to how YOU do things) and indie games have been shown to make just as much if not more money than most AAA games that you often get directly paid from. You also usually get to stick around assuming your game didn't bomb and the lead dev abandons future projects.

The best devs have moved to small studios or indie devs, or they've left the game industry altogether.

You're wrong on SMAA here, though, given a large enough supersample ratio. Go play RE8 with supersample set to 8 (max IIRC) and it's gorgeous and perfect AA. A slideshow, sure. That's why DLDSR is so rad, it gives you something pretty close to true MSAA without such a huge performance hit.

Doom 2016, no AA vs TSSAA8TX vs SMAA. https://limewire.com/d/5NlCA#hYAbjn1CeF

First without any antialiasing. Of course there's basic jaggies going on. But when you start moving: look at how the illuminated parts of the geometry shimmer, look at the checkboard pattern in the blood spatters on the ground and how it shifts in and out of existence depending on the angle. Look how some of the lights disappear and reappear. None of these frames are INDIVIDUALLY bad, but when you play them in a sequence it results in a very unstable presentation. That's temporal aliasing in action.

Then with TSSAA8TX which is basically TAA with 8x supersampling going on, notice how all the snapping has been solved. The reflection now looks normal and no longer noisy or dependent on the angle. Lights are consistently on the screen across frames instead of shifting in and out of existence. Stabilized presentation, both geometric aliasing and temporal aliasing addressed. The only flaw here is that you can still see the ceiling lamp snapping but that's what you get for playing at 1080p, not even TSSAA8TX can fix it.

Then back to SMAA. Newsflash: it doesn't do anything. Only the jaggies are slightly addressed. Everything else is exactly the same as having AA off. Still unstable, the temporal aliasing persists. What's the point of a per-frame spatial antialiasing method if 90% of the visible aliasing happens temporally due to the differences between frames?

This is the last post you get from me you retarded troglodyte. I imagine you'll just vomit some buzzword salad and continue seething at things you don't understand like the pavement ape you are.

You are talking about SSAA. SMAA has nothing to do with SSAA or MSAA, SMAA doesn't even have factors like 4x or 8x.
SSAA is very good, but expensive and not a catch-all solution.

Im mad because mouthbreathers think impressive drone displays are any sign of technologically advanced society, China can't even make a proper phone let alone something as advanced as our 6th gen fighter projects. And if you're really into crackpot conspiracies our military has reverse engineered extra terrestrial aircraft. Ive seen the "TR-33B" fly right over dugway proving grounds.

DLSS and FSR, framegen, it was all supposed to make this run better, not give developers another free pass for dumping as much lighting and particle effects as possible, because it RUNS FINE on their ultra computer
>running fine is
>30fps that stutters and dips below constantly, stutters in general do to loading dozens of files at once instead of streaming, shader compilation stutters, post processing out the ass making everything have a transparency, increasing the amount of ghosting the games have, with HUGE INPUT LAG and constant pop-ins despite being in 2025, where you think we would have solved shit popping in 20 feet in front of you

DLSS/FSR/FG was imagined as a way to tank the performance loss that happens when you use heavy graphical effects like raytracing at high resolutions. DLSS/FSR/FG was never imagined to be a crutch for struggling users, they only co-opted it because they try to co-opt everything. It actually doesn't work so well with low framerates or low resolutions.

I read an interesting article in a film trade magazine at my dentist's office a couple moths ago. It was about how modern digital animation feels less real than digital animation did in the 90s/early 2000s. It's because nothing has any sense of momentum or mass. The article suggested that this is because earlier digital animators started out working with practical effects and stop-motion capture, and understood how physical objects behave and interact better. Newer animators have only worked with digital, and the lack of physical prop experience results in less natural looking animations, despite the fact that the animations are cleaner/more realistic. A low-quality but natural acting prop maintains suspension of disbelief better than a high quality prop that does not seem real.

DICE was founded by graphics programmers from the demoscene for amiga. Demoscene is where you make very impressive graphics using many tricks (many that you have to invent yourself) for systems that wouldn't otherwise be powerful enough to display such graphics.
There are also categories for modern hardware, where you have to make a demo for pc that is 64kb in size but displays impressive graphics that seems like it wouldn't be possible to fit in 64kb. A lot of early game devs came from backgrounds like this.

It isn't brain drain when the publisher fires everyone in the studio and replaces them with H1B workers from India with fake degrees who use ChatGPT for everything
>lazy & self centered workforce
Game developers work the longest hours of any white color job by a huge margin. White devs aren't lazy, the streetshitters that replace them are.
>Shareholder profit maximizing
And when your petty short-sighted decisions to meet earnings forecast fall short you fire all your expensive veteran white developers and replace them with dozens of street shitters.

The solution is the eradication of the Indian race. That is the solution to a majority of problems the west is facing. That or we kill every person with any sort of wealth or power and replace them with people who care (and aren't indian).

They did. It is called Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and it reminded me that good games can still be made.

What's with this brownie baiting around whites?
Whites invented electricity and computers, videogames exist thank to us. Shouldn't you be grateful for the standard of living we gave you?

Electricity is a natural phenomena and you can't define "white".

And this is the reason why society is going to shit. Everyone becomes self-entitled and blame all ills of society on other people.

Outside of game development, it's by design from psychopaths controlling the world market to halt progress. The US government released in 2017 that they had reviewed 5700 inventions for suppression, patents that were made, approved, and immediately vaulted for "national security." Basically shit like newer more efficient versions of Ford's old ethanol fuel car engines, magnetic motors, cold fusion, free energy of any kind, anything that could undercut the oil grid or end any other parts of the debt system.
They'll milk you for every drop of blood they can with suboptimal systems and only when that sector is on the verge of collapse because things are unsustainable will they develop and sell the solution that they've had the whole time, but only a suboptimal version of it on a subscription-like service, making something designed to be cheap be as expensive as possible.
