The answer is simple: it makes money. People want attention and clicks for the sake of ad revenue. It's literal click bait nonsense, and it works consistently. People have figured out that you can get a shit ton of views by jumping on popular hate bandwagons. See the whole PirateSoftware nonsense. The guy is a fuckhead, but hardly worth giving a shit about. But you have dozens of videos coming out every day breaking down every single moment of his downfall, entire movie-length essays dedicated to cataloguing what happened. And they're getting hundreds of thousands of views.

FFXIV is in a bad spot. Even the most diehard fans would agree. Content is coming out at a sluggish pace, the story has nosedived in quality, job mechanics are homogenized, and the core gameplay loop in the MSQ is tedious, going from cutscene to cutscene. But there have been rough points before in the game's history. MMOs have ups and downs. Dawntrail blows chunks, but hopefully the next expansion is better. But making it seem like FFXIV is on the brink of death makes for a much better video than one describing how its just at a low point for the moment.

Playing MMORPGs makes you a manchild.

is it possible? ff14 is very much a single player 'rpg' until you hit the most recent expac, which means it's the story that has to carry you before you hit whatever expac is the newest at a given time. You can't really skip it, so Dawntrail will always remain as a hurdle you have to get through, a great filter of some sorts.

For Dawntrail they updated the blacklist to make it work better for players and the solution to this was to assign a UID to every account which would be shared among alt characters. With this now in play an add-on called Playerscope was made that would read this UID to identify other player's alt characters ie you can tell if your friend is playing on a secret character without telling others. The problem with FFXIV is that it's simultaneously too hardcore and too casual. The gearing and acquisition of gear is all extremely braindead. There's two choices for a piece of gear at any given level and both of them effectively do the same thing so there's no chance you can fuck it up.
At the same time they implement bosses that are complex dances where one guy missing a beat can cause a wipe.
This is dissonant design and actually the opposite of how a healthy MMORPG should function. Gearing and gear acquisition should be a very complex knowledge and time check - that kind of character progression should be the hardcore part of the game that keeps you logging in. The fights themselves should be relatively easy mechanically, with only one or two pressure points (key roles/players, such as a tank or a healer or a person who has to handle a specific mechanic) which allows most of the people in your raid to be retards.
As it is now, you go through the tedium of wiping pull after pull for the reward of........................... +5 main stat, +5 vit, +10 substat A, +10 substat B. Every time into infinity. It's boring.

long story short, the Story for Dawntrail, specifically 7.0 was not that good, this combined with player numbers dropping because theres no longer any pandemic restrictions and people taking complains from EW that genuinely did not affect most people but only a select few and youtubers getting more desperate for views (Zepla) realizing they can just shit on the game for views caused a doomer circle among the terminally online on twitter, youtube and here.

I just realized that XIV and WoW are the only two competing MMOs. The rest pretty much are nonexistent, and any content updates they get over long spans of time are eclipsed by either of the two dropping updates every few months.

Deep Dungeons are locked behind reaching level 30,. unlocking jobs, and joining GC, which is a 40 hour endeavor for a new player.

I can't say with any certainty whether that random gibberish spam and archive scrapes were dumpy or not, since artbook spam has also had bot generated garbage attached to it lately. I do know the bot spam was a failed lalafell attention whore who would feign getting triggered by his own posts as a justification for stressing the entire website. Dawntrail was fucking ass. I thought Endwalker had promise at first but then it lost it all the closer you got to the end of the MSQ and everything after was just shit. For me though, the community is the absolute worst aspect of the game. Everyone fucking sucks and nobody has the capacity to learn something as simple as their rotation. It is not hard to be a "good" player, it's just that nobody wants to put in even the smallest amount of effort to press buttons in a more optimal way. It's been this way since ARR though and when HW came out along with FFlogs, it really showcased how fucking awful everyone is at the game.

I was phoning it in last tier (I quit after clearing FRU) because I didn't want to play tank but was forced. For tank, all you need to do is your rotation, use pots, and have food up. Since you're a tank, you don't really contribute anything from raid buffs but you benefit from doing your burst while in raid buffs so you need to have your timing down. PLD is incredibly easy to optimize. Honestly, just look at The Balance, get the general idea of what to do on your opener and then look at other people's logs to see exactly what they're doing and how they're aligning their stuff with raid buffs. It's that easy.

I joined the game and it took me literal months to get through ARR. I quit and then came back to try again. Near the end of ARR is when things became interesting to me. Then I got to HW which gripped me into the game what made it even better was I playing as DRG. Then I got to SB which I liked maybe because it was in it's 4.5 patch so I was able to one shot the MSQ and enjoyed it, eagerly waiting Shadowbringers. Then my interest slowly waned in Shadowbringers post 5.3 but from non-game factors a woman found her way into the friend group and stirred drama which lead to one dude stirring drama in the friend group and eventually the group broke apart. Played through EW solo and when that finished it felt like that was the cap on this game for me. I eventually came back near the end of EW found a new group to play with and was actually excited for DT. But once again a a woman stirred drama in the FC I was in along with the MSQ for DT being very weak caused a lot of people in the FC to stop playing. I'm pretty sure my enjoyment for the game would be much more if I could find a stable group to play with without one faggot causing drama breaking apart the group.

at level ten you're not missing anything compared to what you were before in heavensward, you didn't have disembowel yet so most players logically wouldn't touch impulse drive yet (200 potency) since it wasn't a combo (150 true thrust + 240 vorpal thrust) even if that ended up being a 10 potency loss over time, that's poopsocking levels of metagaming at level ten. your ass was also not touching feint if your tank wasn't stupid. and i mean REALLY stupid. so ignoring feint and keen flurry because you're not touching those at level 10, you lose impulse drive and gain life surge. that's a good trade off for super low levels!

There was still ACT and people had call-outs for mechanics but I never used any plugins for ACT. I only used it for monitoring my DPS. You get an occasional gay little minigame MOVE TO THIS SPARKLY MOVE TO THAT SPARKLY OOP SOME MOOKS APPEARED and you kill them instantly because overworld enemies are COMPLETE JOBBERS after ARR
