Yes. Co-op is better, but solo play works fine.
There are lots of difficulty sliders you can tweak, which can make the solo experience less tedious or difficult.

I've had fun with it. This isn't actually a game you need other people to play with, perfectly fine as a single player experience. Later encounters are definitely tougher solo, but there's always ways of dealing with whatever the game throws at you.

yeah its great solo
no having to wait for friends to progress, no mats magically disappearing the second you put them down, can design base where and how you please.
coop has its perks too such as revives, more invintory space between players to carry loot back, faster killing of more spongy enemies.
pretty standard but solo does feel a bit better though if i had a full four maybe my opinions would be different.
