It didn't. It actually did better than Nintendo expected it to. It was one of those experimental tech demo games they quickly added a lot of DLC to to buff it up.

It didn't set the world on fire like Splatoon did, but it did fine. Even Splatoon didn't really take off until the sequel was made, so it's probably fair to give an arms sequel a chance.

I actually really enjoyed this game, but as soon as they allowed every character to have access to all equipment it was over, a meta loadout was found out right away and it was paired with the top 3 best characters while everyone else was left in the dust, and that took out a lot of fun imo.

ARMS was legitimately a fun game that just needed some fine tuning. EX moves and unique Supers would make this a very interesting fighting game.
