what gets popular and what doesn't is entirely dependent if they release at the right time.
Apex Legends released right when br was getting popular but all you had was slop grafted from other games.
Marvel Rivals released at the apex of wokeness when it seemed that nothing with western properties could ever look sexy again.
And now Battlefield 6 is getting traction because COD is leaning too much into silly cosmetics and crossovers with pop culture slop.
It's all about things coming out at the right cultural moment.

Sex would have sold but the game didn't even support 21:9, let alone 32:9. I'm not playing on a CRT monitor. Not to mention, it was a very good game. Controls were shit, everything autoaimed, and it basically played itself. Outside of hot women in mechs it had nothing going for it.

It does indeed sells which is why Mecha Break a game that missed it's target audience by being multiplayer slop have 9k players while similar missed target multiplayer slop have 50 people playing it, mecha fans are like RTS fans, they want campaign, coop and fun, instead devs serve them multiplayer slop and then wonder why their game bombed.
Also Apex is a meme in asia, if you tell some chink or jap you play FPS they just assume you play Apex.

That game's metrics look pretty grim, to be fair. No matter how many seasons they add, the line keeps going catastrophically down and it hasn't stabilized yet.

It's simple, it wasn't playable on phones, the target demographic of those gacha and gacha-like games are on phones, doesn't matter if the game is good or bad, asians would play it, if it's on pc and consoles, it needs to be a good fucking game, and all those chink slop aren't good games that are worth the price.
