Call of Duty raping the FPS scene, and RPGs being dumbed down, mostly.

Filthy casuals dumbing down games and now everything holds your hand. we tried to warn you. Go play Far Cry 2 with the realism Redux mod on hardcore mode.

A lot more Pokemon, tripfags, hentai threads. The ratio of Japanese games to Western games back then was about 70:30.
Anonymous No.717903983 [Report]
believe it or not the console war faggotry was even worse
the only difference was they actually still believed in the brand they were fanboying back then
now it's a fraction of what it used to be but it's mostly just hating other brands as opposed to championing your own because everyone has become disillusioned and no longer has any faith in vidya corpos

if you kinda want a walk down the older times go to the archives, sort by oldest first, OPs only
it only goes back to 2015 but it's something at least

We used to make fun of waifufags and obvious pandering in games. In some ways it was a better time. On the other hand it was riddled with way more off-topic posting than now.

Just consolewars for the most part
2010s was a definite time where casualization started so that too
Politics wise people complained about Obama, trump and Hillary all the same they did today

I was on Funnyjunk back then, but people were complaining about "brown linear corridor shooters", League of Legends and Minecraft were upcoming promising small indie games, TF2 was alive, Sonic was in its full dark age moment (but still had autistic fans everywhere).
Halo was alive.
People loved Japanese games especially for Sony consoles: Resident Evil, Dead or Alive, Street Fighter 4, Metal Gear, these all had discussion for sure.
Also, since Gears of War + Halo were alive and Kojima's games were on Playstation, you had really intense console wars.
Nintendo was in full "old men and toddlers can play" mode with Wii and DS, so they were the butt of the joke even though they sold a gajillion copies of everything.

Gamergate was one year before the election of Trumpy, things escalated rather quickly.
You can't Mandela this, the idea that there was a SIX YEAR escalation from gamergate to 2016 is preposterous

Weebs weren’t tolerated back then. They didn’t dare show their face or post about their moeshit and were immediately put down if they tried

People actually talked about what they loved even if some people were fags who hated everything. Some insults and cursing were used mainly to chase off people from other websites and to test if people actually lurked or hopped right in and fucked something up, thereby outing themselves. Brown and Bloom was the big joke regarding game trends at the time based on people aping Shadow of the Colossus without understanding what made that game work. Casualization of games was a big threat and things were really unfun to play, but some games were holding the line and actually still providing a challenge and expecting players to think. Demon's Souls was the one game on the PS3 and its threads were always filled with on-topic discussion and OC, which was a sign of things to come with how popular and acclaimed From Software's games would be.

The mods were still fags, but they didn't have AIDS. They didn't do enough work, but they sure did a lot more work, and didn't fuck up as much.

Pic related, it's about E3 2010.

Fake revisionism. K-on was literally at it's peak and Touhou had gotten so rampant that it got it's own containment board.

Complaining about filthy casuals and the common catchphrase of "we want to appeal to a wider audience" that had already become very common by then.
/vg/ wasn't quite a thing yet, so as the year went on, you would see more general threads for games like SC2, League of Legends and so on. More importantly, anons still had the drive to You might think that's an entirely bad thing with how /vg/ threads are, but at least anons still discussed the game and actually seemed to care about rather than the circlejerks they would devolve to. More importantly, OC was still being produced related to those games.
To be fair, /v/ was still kind of a shithole by this point but you could still make the argument that there was gold in the mountains of shit. Rare threads that were great. Personally always liked those deep sea generals myself.
