I know it's autistic of me to say this, but I don't get the fascination with "outdoor" hobbies some people pretend to have, but when you get down to it, it seems like these people don't even like outdoor hobbies. Fishing is an outdoor hobby, so is gemstone hunting, birdwatching, outdoor painting, yet all of these are "lame" hobbies. Outside of camping (Which people try once and hate it), hiking (where most people go through extremely easy pre-approved and uninteresting paths, which essentially amount to a light walk in the woods) and whatever nebulous things people pretend to admire, it seem that what they mean by outdoor hobbies is just drinking outside and dancing outside. Hell, even combat sports is an indoor activity. I just learned to disregard these types of observations because most people have no idea what they actually admire.

Yes
When I started my English teaching job, I was making around $35-40k a year and living surprisingly comfortably
I had a relationship, was able to travel all over the country and do little weekend trips and activities with friends, was able to buy new games, go to work drinking parties, have crazy nights out in Kabukicho, etc
It’s all amazingly affordable and you pretty much get a good dining/drinking/activity experience everywhere because of generally higher standards.
People meme “THING BUT JAPAN BASEDFACE” all the time but it’s legitimately better over there as long as you maintain a social life (which is very easy if you aren’t absolutely ugly and/or an autist).
The country has so much to offer, each city and region is very different aesthetically and culturally so you’ll never get bored of the same places, and the people are all welcoming and fun whether you’re out drinking or just doing something social like hiking (again, assuming you aren’t a complete failure).
The only thing truly holding you back is lack of language, but you can learn reasonably quickly, or enough to get by and enjoy yourself.
If you’re an attractive WHITE foreigner who has a good grasp of the language, it will be your paradise because women will fawn over you, jobs will be offered to you, and you will generally enjoy a great life.
Japan is only xenophobic to other Asians, blacks, browns, and ugly people.

1. women perceive caring about gemstone as extremely effeminate.
2. independently of 1., women consider caring about minerals extremely autistic.
3. hunting gemstones sounds like a weird version of "attempting to get rich via weird schemes.". Like, you don't get the panty-dropped bonus JUST because you try to seem to want to become successful, and if it's too weird, it registers as negative. (Note, I am not implying this is your actual motivation).

All these hobbies you don't do much other than sit around and wait for something to happen for very very little reward or you are doing a shitton of work for very very little rewards
>sit around for hours waiting for a fish to bit
>then it bites you reel it up (or you don't) and that's meant to be the highlight of your trip
>sit around for hours waiting for a white crested brown boobie tit to appear
>it finally appears, you watch it hop around on a branch for 30 secs through you binoculars from 500 feet away and it flies off
>"woooooooo yeah did you see that crest, sooo white!"
Yeah doesn't sound too riveting

You're not reading between the lines.
Women don't like fat, weak, unpopular men. That's all "outdoor hobbies" means. They don't actually give a shit what you do, they're just going to talk about themselves anyway, as long as you're kind of in-shape and not an outcast it doesn't matter, it's just about appearance and social acceptance.

You can have the most interesting hobbies in the world and they're just going to take about work drama and netflix show. It's better this way, but you gotta read between the lines.

Japan is EXCEEDINGLY cheap, and you should not live off 7-11 pre-made dishes because konbini food is way more expensive than shopping at the supermarket and preparing your own. And yet konbini food is still cheap compared to North America, a meal for $3? I lived in Tokyo for a while. Before going, everyone told me how expensive it was going to be to live there, and everyone there believed it to be expensive. The cost of living is half of that in North America. If you're not living like a tourist and going from restaurant to restaurant and trying to do things all day, you'll realize just how cheap it is to live there. But if it's that expensive to them, I can't imagine more rural areas and smaller towns.

The fact that such a high number of the population can afford to build their own family home is astounding to me. 40 hour weeks is only enough for rent in the shitty end of town where I live. Sometimes it almost seems better to live near homeless for a few years and work 60-80 hour weeks just to get enough money to do school, but even then that's a gamble.

I heard some teenagers read a text in their native language the other day and they sounded like two complete idiots, worse than the immigrants reaching our shores. I'm no economist, but wouldn't anyone see their own currency being strong as a good thing? It's kind of a no-brainer. Meanwhile, since Shinzo Abe was in office, he set up a policy that actually they should weaken the yen intentionally as it will lead to more money from tourism and exports. But it takes serious mental gymnastics as to how weakening your own currency could possibly be a good thing for the average person living there.

For most Japanese people, the answer to both those questions is probably no. Japan imports plenty of things, all of which will get more expensive as well. Any Japanese person who wants to visit or move abroad will now find it much more difficult. Any foreigners who want to purchase land in Japan and take advantage of the situation will now find it easier to do so unless the government specifically forbids that. I think Canada has a situation like that with housing where tons of it has been bought up by Chinese and rented out to native Canadians.

Alcohol boosts you to a fun level of 8/10 and then drops you to 4/10 with a hangover. So if you're normally at 5/10, that's a good deal. But if you're averaging at 7/10 without booze, it's not worth it

This is kinda bullshit because most Chinese “land owners” just own unlivable houses as pseudo stock investments. They aren’t real homes and you can’t actually do anything with the land besides resell it

How many Americans between the age of 18 and 30 actually own land or their house unless it's something they inherited from their family? This goes pretty much for most countries. Shits expensive and everything else getting more expensive certainly doesn't help. Sure I can buy a dilapidated former crack den for very little, but something actually liveable, not so much.

If you arent financially well off you arent gonna be able to go to Japan to begin with bud. Travels expensive and you basically have to work remote to maintain your american wages. No matter where you go its never as simple as "I can move there and keep living my fancy american life!"

Nah nigga youll see a lifestyle change including in your wages unless your job is just that cushy
