>>717940868>Thus, instead of investigating what it means to be a painted personThere is some of this, though yeah I would have liked a lot more. There's not enough exploration of feelings between the two protaganists, one a god, and one who was once real, vs purely not 'real' characters.
>Simple meta theme about using escapism to stay in griefIt's a simple theme, but its explored pretty adequetly.
> Tortured immortality, but without a plausible case for the tortureI don't know who you're talking about here. Verso is plagued by nightmares, never sleeps etc and its bought up quite frequently
I agree with the rest though.
I think ultimately they were so shackled to the idea of having the choice at the end that it didn't really give itself time to nudge the player towards any feelings regarding maelle. I think it could have worked really well if the maelle twist came sooner, her ending was forced, and you had to live with that but the game had worked harder to build up more of a picture of what the rest of the cast thought about it.
What irks me even more is how the game tries to coerce you into thinking Verso's ending is the 'good' one, where you get the cast all waving goodbye (somehow) vs Maelles ending where verso is begging to die. In reality both endings are shitty.
Given all that I still think its a really great game, and attempted a lot more than a lot of vidya stories out there. I think it also greatly respects the players intelligence on the whole.
