The problem isn’t first party, it’s third party. How many of those great Xbox and Xbox 360 exclusives were made outside of Microsoft? Sega and Tecmo were huge supporters of the system and both had tons of Xbox exclusives. The 2nd best selling PS1 game was Final Fantasy VII and that game sold that system. That just doesn’t exist anymore. At best you have timed exclusivity but most games release on everything at the same time, even PC. So now Sony and MS are entirely reliant on their first party developers to make exclusives and it’s just not working. The only reason Sony is treading water and not outright imploding like MS is because they won the 8th gen so hard that the yearly slopgames (CoD and sports) all might as well be exclusive to Playstation and thus prop the whole thing up.
This is also why I think Nintendo has managed to avoid a lot of these problems: third party flight from their systems during the N64 and Gamecube days forced them to establish a large internal development apparatus that still exists to this day. Honestly exclusives only ever made sense for Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. They make first party games to try and sell their hardware. Sony barely makes first party games anymore and Microsoft shifted to trying to trying to get people to use Game Pass, which is on PC too, so they have no need to make exclusives and they cancel half their games anyway. Nintendo is the only one of the three that still makes games with their IPs and their IPs sell their systems so it makes sense for them to stay exclusive. For third party developers, exclusives have never made sense and they all finally realized this towards the end of Gen 8. Exclusives just means less sales for no reason.

It is. Even the fact that the joycons snap inside the console makes the system sturdier in handheld mode. Before the joycons always felt wobbly while on the rails. The intake vents are now on the bottom, so you never have to worry about suffocating the system if you leave it on a bed or pillow. Joycons are larger. SR/SL buttons are larger and easier to press. The screen is huge and is a wider gamut LCD. I don't know how that is possible but it's obvious it looks more colorful and it's 1080p now. Some older Switch games now have better performance and faster load times. Also the USB input being on the top and bottom so you can charge it how you want is much better. Also it's based that they're still using 3.5mm headphone jacks. FUCK airpod/wireless subhuman Gaymer niggers who actually think compressed audio is a good thing.
