>>717947886No. Cave Story is a linear platformer with a level select via the teleporter. The only backtracking is within the singular level itself, when you're doing the shit in Grass Town and collecting the dogs in Sand Zone. None of them are really connected and there aren't any obstacles in the way that you get past with new powerups. It just progresses levels as you move left to right and kill enemies and bosses, sometimes climbing up.
Great game but not a Metroidvania
