what is the point of handhelds/portables? they were useful when I was a kid and my parents would take me places but I just wanted to play vidya games, but as an adult if I'm at home I can play my non-portable games and if I'm not at home it's because I have something to do that doesn't involve bing bing wahoos. is the only use case playing games on the toilet?

They're perfect for me, my parents have a vacation house they spend all summer in and insist on flying me up almost every weekend, it's a 50 minute to 1 hour flight weather depending so its perfect for those flights. Also if I am sick I can plug it in and play in bed without going to my PC

I agree somewhat, but I still like them because:

1. My fiancee's parents live in a town 2hrs away and we sometimes spend the weekend there, so having a video game console I can take with me with ease is good, much better than taking an entire home console on my bag every time, also makes it more pick up and play, which is helpful on trips like this which are often chill, and suddently can have you end up doing a lot of stuff.

2. It's comfortable to ue it in bed.

That's all really.

Maybe if you weren't poor, you'd do some traveling and have a reason for portability.

I find portability much less important as an adult than when I was a kid, but there are still use cases.

You do realize how big the mobile gaming industry is, right? Smartphones are this generation's gameboy, and the clue is in the name: portable gaming. It's something to do on a bus or while sitting in a waiting room. During the Gameboy/GBA era there was no wifi or smartphones or tablets, the gameboy was what you put in a kid's hand to keep them occupied while out in public. And I'd argue the gameboy was a lot better for kids than the tablet, which has irreparably damaged an entire generation of children by drip-feeding them constant slop at age 2.

you know you're allowed to put a tv in your bedroom and use a wireless gamepad so you can play from your bed? no one will stop you, unless you have a bitch wife I guess.

>tv in your bedroom
I did this so I could fall asleep playing Switch and it was the worst mistake of my life. I would be up playing REMake or Fatal Frame until like 3AM and then put on Cumtown compilations, my sleep was fucked. I stopped playing it at night so its all good now but the initial months of having it were suffering

TV in bedroom is for teenagers or people living in a sharehouse.
Keep your loungeroom/gaming room separate to your bedroom, like a real adult. Stupid bingbangwahoo kid. I bet you wear pajamas to bed too.

The real question is why did they stop making handhelds with transparent cases? Seeing the circuit traces inside my GBA sowed the seeds of my eventual interest in electronics.

>you know you're allowed to put a tv in your bedroom and use a wireless gamepad so you can play from your bed?

You're not thinking clearly. When you lie down on bed, you have to change sides every 3 minutes or you get massive back pain. You'd need two TVs to make sure you get video on both sides AND they'd have to be installed 90 degrees sideways. That's nonsense. It's much better to have a small screen that follows you when your body changes orientation.

handhelds used to have cool exclusives. now handhelds don't really exist, indie games kinda took over the niche of cheap games of a lower quality than console games.

I miss when handhelds were a completely different ecosystem compared to now where they're basically portable home consoles that let you play downgraded console games.

even when you do play mobile shit with keyboard and mouse or a controller, it doesn't change that the game was designed to be played with 1 finger on a screen
it's why games like wuthering waves are all flash, no substance
