I haven’t upgraded my pc in 11 years. Is it true that AMD is now the preferred option? I still remember the driver memes.

They are for CPUs without question currently, x3D line is the best option for anyone playing games especially at framerates above 120
They're decently popular as a midrange GPU option as well but Nvidia 50 series cards are starting to stabilize in price so the value proposition is slightly lessened but yes they are decent cards

>>gpu
>raw fps
it might be up there with green cards but there are other factors to consider
>ray zozzling
rdna 4 does it better than rdna 3 but path zozzling is still not possible
>image quality
fsr 4 is terrible in ue5 games unless you stand still. it ghosts and the support isnt the widest, requiring override hacks or mods. no aa is out of the question
>power consumption
its as bad as it always has been
.
>>cpu
yes

chances are if your pc is 11 years old you'd have a better time upgrading your display than getting a gpu unless your framerates are sub 20

Well shit at this point I would look out for a second-hand 3060 or something, just for a well-needed graphical upgrade for all the good shit that came out in the last years and so on. It's memed to fuck and all but BG3 and CP2077 are incredible games that you're likely unable to play with your current hardware, especially CP that runs perfectly well with a 3060 but not with +10yo hardware.

When it comes to CPUs it's AMD, no question.
GPUs are a different story though. AMD ones are good if you just want to play vidya but NVidia dominates the RTX, 3D modelling, and AI sectors.

currently Nvidia drivers are worse than AMD's especially if running 5000 series and win 11

AMD CPU + Nvidia GPU is the meta at the high end. If you can't afford the high end, I guess AMD will do, but the truth is non-high end GPUs are kind of in the gutter now, still very expensive relative to what they offer, not enough RAM, etc. I think DLSS is a killer feature, and it beats the pants off FSR, but it loses a lot of value and visual quality if you aren't playing on quality preset at 4K, and if you aren't in the high budget bracket you probably aren't. Intel GPUs aren't terrible at the lowest budget, but they're so new and so small that I'd expect to have a lot of weird driver problems and other issues, especially in older games.

As an aside, I would also be really careful about taking technical advice from other anons on /v/, who are disproportionately brown, poor, and retarded. These aren't employable people who know their ass from a hole in the ground, it's mostly broke jeets crying that modern games are bigger than games from twenty years ago.

I should clarify that I haven’t upgraded not because I’m poor but because I found no reason to and I was only casually gaming playing a bunch of older stuff. There’s some newer games that I am interested in now and figured since I have more time on my hands to just build a new pc. No monitor needed since I plan on hooking it up to my oled.
