What is the most important video game in history?
Anonymous No.718155831 [Report] >>718161132
Realistically it’s probably earlier games like pong, but I’d say Super Mario Games and Jumpman. They helped save the video game genre and pretty much revolutionized it.

Concord. It will be remembered as the massive flop that drove all the massive game devs away from making 500 gorillion dollar game projects.

Every good game had all the bad parts of it copied, while all the good stuff was ignored.
Very few games learned from the OOT pretty diverse combat options, but a shitload of em copied the horrible stealth minigames where you're effectively dodging invisible lasers that "kill" you in the most annoying way possible.

Space Invaders
Video games were just another electromechanical kids toy with no future that was gonna go out of style within a few years, but then Space Invaders made a billion dollars and suddenly video games was an entire industry by itself

Either pong, tetris or any of these super early games, or something like doom which became massively popular. Certainly no Zelda.

Those are all good picks, but Zelda 1 deserves consideration

The thing with Zelda is that while it was popular, I do not feel the first one was influential enough to stand up to the likes of DK or Mario, and it also wasn't old enough of an IP to be a founding block. I'd argue by the time of the first Zelda video games were already going to boom sooner or later.

objectively Super Mario Bros. the launch title for the Nintendo Entertainment System. I never see it mentioned ever, but it's impossible to understate how important it was that Nintendo resurrected the medium after the huge crash it endured.

It would be better to make a list of like the 20 most important games. As if you just pick 1 then you basically have to pick Pong or Tetris.

It deserves consideration for its work in getting rid of password saving systems and actually including a battery with the cart.

Pong
Tetris
Pac Man
Donkey Kong
Mario Bros
Zelda 1
Final Fantasy 1
Final Fantasy 7
Super Metroid
Castlevania SOTN
Zelda OOT
Metal Gear Solid
Resident Evil 1
Resident Evil 4
GTA 3
Elder Scrolls Oblivion (or maybe you could say Skyrim instead)
Assassins Creed and Far Cry 3 (basically created the modern open world type games)
Pokemon Red/Blue
Street Fighter 2, Tekken 2 and Mortal Kombat 1 probably all together are responsible for the proper fighting game genre
Demons Souls (or Dark Souls 1)
Wii Sports
The first Uncharted game id say as well had a pretty big influence on modern movie games

It’s gotta be between Space Invaders and Super Mario Bros. Space Invaders proved games could print money, but Mario defined what a home console game could be. Like, it straight up laid the foundation for platformers, level design philosophy, and even the idea of mascots. Hard to overstate how big that little plumber was in getting the medium back on its feet after the crash.
