What made it so much better than the Tony Hawk games?

Focus on grounded skating. I could see myself pulling Skate 2 tricks but not Tony Hawk air jumping glitches where I can escape the skybox and still keep a combo going.

It actually felt like skating, I got so much satisfaction in skate from just being able to session a ledge or set of stairs for like 30 minutes and even simple tricks could be hard, playing SKATE where you had to try and pop a nollie varial heel over a mailbox or something was actually kinda hard there was some pressure it was really good for just replicating the actual feel of skating.

Will never understand retards who compare Skate and THPS. It's like comparing Need For Speed and Assetto Corsa.

I dunno. what made DooM a better game than Doki Doki Literature Club?

Exactly this. Skate made you feel like you were actually trying to land tricks, not just mashing buttons to extend a 3-minute combo across rooftops while grinding telephone wires. Tony Hawk was basically a rhythm game with skate vibes. Fun as hell, but completely detached from how skating feels. Skate had that low-key soul of watching old VX1000 footage and just hanging at a spot with friends. You pop a kickflip crook on a bench and you're stoked for the whole day.
