do you just wanna have fun in campaigns?
just use Pause button whenever you want. In single player you can still assign commands like attacking or building stuff while paused. The game becomes super comfy and relaxed to play this way, but it still feels strategic and challenging depending on difficulty.
do you want to git gud?
1.) put your fingers on QWER
look at icons (mainly villager build and unit produciton icons in buildings)
learn to hit them with your fingers (it's really not that hard)
2.) I would recommend setting "All Town Centers" hotkey to R, cause you will be hitting that A LOT, and it will be super easy and fast this way (just move the couple unit produciton hotkeys to F. You don't have to change villager build hotkeys, they don't actually overlap)
3.) learn to use control groups:
-an easy general rule of thumb is to learn to use 2 control groups for your army and 2 control groups for your unit production buildings. For example 1,2,3,4: 1 is all your archers, 2 is all your spearmen, 3 is all your archery ranges, 4 is all your barracks
-for everything else just hop home with the "move/cycle to next Town Center" hotkey (or whatever it's called) and click on stuff.
-learn to hop home with this hotkey and quickly hop back to your main army with double tapping it's control group
-I would recommend using 2,3,4,5 instead of 1,2,3,4 if your fingers are on qwer, as it's a bit easier to hit in my opinion
-after creating your control group, just "append" new units/buildings to it isntead of always re-creating it, it's easier that way
-Optional but I would recommend remapping either the Ctrl or Shift hotkeys to Alt, or better just use AutoHotkey to swap Ctrl and Shift with easier to reach keys like Tab and Space. Again, you will be hitting these keys A LOT
