Every playthrough is "legitimate" purely in the sense that you did indeed play the game.
But showing to show you actually mastered it, 1cc is the golden standard for survival at very least.

Not him, but MS1 is a very reasonable 1cc for people who don't suck at video games. Real chokepoints where you will need to retry a couple times before you come up with a strat are few.

I like to imagine that every time one character dies a helicopter comes to take him to a hospital and then the next character joins the fight. So basically when all 4 characters die the game is over.

As I said, I assumed that the anon was talking about people doing 1ccs in general, not just about people playing metal slug before the first MVS capable emulator arrived. I'd say I doubt that many people used to learn the game at the arcades even back then since all the games had their shitty psx and saturn ports and Neo Geo AES was literally the same platform.

Do what you want, play however you find fun, there is nothing more wrong than letting other people tell you how to enjoy a single player game especially. Still, my take on the matter is that if you appreciate arcade-style, you will naturally gravitate towards things like trying to get better the games until you can do 1cc runs, try to get better scores, or if it's a fightan then beat the crap out of others.
