Back in the day we all knew the truth, the gba was basically like nintendos 32x or a gbc2 just another little stop gap upgrade not an outright new console. Hell if the gba is a new console then the sp is too. Which means the gba is actually an iredeemably shit console thanks to its non lit screen.

The system did 80m units in 3 years. GBA SP is the best or 2nd best Nintendo handheld depending how you feel about DS Lite. Some people never actually lived through disposable battery era of handhelds. Only flaws:

There were like 900 games released in North America alone... for a system that had 'no games', it sure did get a lot of games. Admittedly, it was loaded with shovelware. But that is besides the point.

It was great for playing FFTA, Tales of Phantasia and Super Marios on a go

NTA but i still have both my copies of boktai 1 and 2 from when i first got them in like 2004 or 05. I would hold a lamp between my legs to position it in front of the sensor so i could play at night to where the outer shell near the sensor became slightly opaque and I have fond memories of dodging bees during the summer while trying to beat it sitting outside.

Monster Rancher Advance, Medarot, even the Megaman Battle Network series were massive there. It wasn't just a Pokemon box - it was an RPG goldmine if you could read kana.
