I actually preferred the Gamegear one.
Green hill was better, with more variety between acts (Act 2 was underground), and I preferred Bridge, Jungle and Skybase over Marble, Spring Yard and Starlight.
I give 0 fucks about the lack of le meme loop-da-loops. Some of the level design was better imo.
