its kinda toss and mischaracterizes the characters pretty badly, the minigame parts were fun but don't connect to the story in any way

I kinda like Rubilite. Fun enough gameplay with enough variety, equipping like 5 different weapons for multiple movesets is fun, music is pretty good. Anything that lets me do stuff like accidentally summon probably the final boss is neat.

Recently I've finished The Drifter and I really recommend it. It's point'n'click sci-fi thriller about drifter suddenly gets the ability to cheat death and is pursued by spec-ops , Really engaging story and decent but no bullshit puzzles. One issue being that at time when you perform tasks instead of showing animation it goes black with narration describing the action. I guess budgetary limitation.

Currently playing: Blue Fire - it's kinda mixed, a bit jank, but scratches the Metroidvania itch in a way where I feel like the jank is intentional. It's a weird game, nothing special I'd say but fun enough.

I've also been enjoying FUMES a little, but it just got out into early access so I can only say "this has potential" absolutely amazing menus, really captures the old school vibes it's going for.

It honestly rocks when you find out there's someone on /v/'s whole life is making sure nobody badmouths a game they like. I am currently playingh Robot girl's dream -RobotBattleChampionship- and Return of the Obra Dinn. Former is similar to Swords and Sandals but you play with cute robot girl instead of gladiator and you don't restart your file after being defeated. Lot of content, it reminds me a lot of flash era games. Latter is detective mystery game where you have to figure out what happened to the crew of ship by going back to past and seeing short scenes of crew members death.
Hard to pick a favorite, there is a lot. LobCorp, Everhood, Last Command, Rabi-Ribi, They Bleed Pixels, Dungeon Munchies, To the Moon, Astlibra Revision and many more.
Not sure about the worst one but I think ICEY just because it felt like shitty mix of sidescroller and Stanley Parable

Right now I'm playing through Gravity Circuit and I fucking love it. It's like the sum total of all things Mega Man. It cribs from Classic, X, and Zero to come up with a fast, fluid and satisfying 2D brawler. For years I slept on it, thinking it was just another Mega Clone banking on memberberries, but it actually stands on its own two feet as a game despite being packed with more references than Rockman 4 Minus Infinity. I'm currently going through NG+ with a bunch of the increased difficulty modifiers active and it's a blast. If you ever wished there was a Mega Man Zero 5 or Mega Man X9, it's worth a play.
My favorite indie is probably Pizza Tower, even if that makes me a pleb. I just love stylish cartoony platformers with good music. Honorable mention to Void Stranger which absolutely sucked me in and consumed my life despite my distaste for sokobans. I wish there were more games like it that encouraged you to poke at them and try to break them. Cif is best girl.
"Worst" depends on where the bar is set, because I've seen some real steamers back in the shareware days when companies would trawl BBSes for anything they could find and release CDs full of barely functional shovelware. But as for more contemporary indies, I have to say Knuckle Sandwich. Usually I can respect shitty games for what they're trying to do but that game just made me physically ill to look at. I'm glad the tumblr nose fad finally fucked off.

i don't recall my exact complaints but i also felt the controls were stiff. you are put in a difficult race a few levels in and it really highlights the issue. it has been a few years since i last tried it though, and wasn't so bad i don't feel like trying it again sometime. didn't it support analog movement? that feels like it could have been my complaint, i didn't like using dpad for it because it felt slow but joystick made it so you didn't line up with the right angle geometry.

Used to be this "freeware games bundle" that got posted here back in like fucking 2012, that I don't have anymore.

It had some cool games like Knytt and Eversion which later went on to be paid titles on steam. Also the OG classics like Cave Story and Jilloff, I can't remember all of them I'm sure if you search freeware in the v archive websites you'll get links.

I'm not big on specific youtubers, but I keep an eye out on alpha beta gamers channel since its no commentary gameplay, and since he posts so much content he seems to really scrape around for stuff that not everyone has heard of after a while. he also used to be complete dogshit at games so props for keeping at it.

most memorable of his games was one where you're a prison guard overseeing 3 girls with disabilities that had crazy powers and the game had a route for each that ended in you escaping together. good artist but fuck those were bad.
