One of the greatest RPG's I've ever played, and I've played most of them.
Went straight from FF6 to Octopath Traveler II to Black Souls and I prefer Black Souls out of all of them, just my 2-cents. Exploring the world was funner and more rewarding, breaking the game was funner, and I vastly preferred the story.
Other RPG games feel sterile/lackluster in comparison.

To the contrary there are the puzzle, CG hunter and experimental system variants.
Experimental systems are usually shit and built on an already existing framework. Really. I've played quite a lot and the one in Fumika barely counts because while it is the normal system it is number autism to the maximum.
CG hunters are nothing but walking around and maybe picking up key items.
Puzzle games are usually 'in what combination should I approach these symbol encounters' with HP, ATK, DEF etc stats pulled out to the overworld map.

You really need to spice that up with some interesting ideas like the outlandish visuals of Hylics of being trained as a goblin steed of Nord's game.

Having an extra turn is nice but Drake Sword's fully-upgraded skill does ridiculous damage if you can burn the enemy.
Personally I think the best weapon in 1 is Hans' Machine Gun but Andor Sword becomes a lot better in 2 because the late-game revolves around stacking additional actions (and you can switch weapons in-battle).

Otakuplan seems to have a few different lv translators some of which were genuinely using old nonai MTL a few years back, shit was bad.
Theyve ""gotten""" better at it but its always best to keep an eye open for each of their releases.
Thankfully they didnt try that shit with this game.

If you want to know how bad it was before maybe read up on how they handled MECHANICA
Original dev was pissed when he saw reviews talking about how atrocious the MTL was & told OtakuPlan off and forced them to redo it, luckily the rating of the game somewhat recovered but still, sadly the fix came like a month or two late so it kinda squandered.

They havent had any issues like that since, and I've played a fair amount of their games, outside of a few ESL structred sentences in a few of the more niche games they seem to at least try now.

While the combat in Black Souls 1 is pretty standard but enjoyable turn based combat, the level design is generally annoying and you need a speedup function to get through all the tedious bits of the game (like upgrading a weapon to max level). The level design sucks because you're constantly bumping into stupid ass things on the ground that count as wall tiles. Stuff like twigs, piles of dirt, pebbles, shovels, etc. Also something about the way the choicebox works on keyboard is very annoying, like when talking to an NPC it will start at the very bottom option (usually rape or kill) and force you to press up multiple times to select talk, its probably a quirk of RPGmaker but it definitely lead to some resets while playing.
I beat the game and killed all the optional bosses like Bandersnatch and the true ending boss, overall was a pretty fun time besides the annoying rpgmaker shit. I didn't care for the porn segments either it was pretty boring.

Ignoring the obivous path of progression of heading north through the forest, rotten burg and Fort Ivern, I decided to explore south and east-north first. Reaching a wall with the monster in the mine, leading me to explore Graveyard town to find upgrade materials for my Knight sword and any extra frigid resin.

I already knew through cultural osmosis how BS1 and BS2 had elements regrading Lovecraftian horrors, I just didn't expect to see guys labeled "One who Lurks" and "One who Drains" down there. Kinda ran the fuck away after trying to fight one head one.

Then, when you get the boat and head east, seeing that multi eye fucked in background parallax until you reached the opening in tree line was first major sign the world of BS1 was fucked beyond normal bad fantasy shit.

Step 4: enhance your speed during the battle. The dagger's ultimate skill gives you a great speed buff. If you're not using the dagger (which may be the case past the early game when you find an even faster sword) fairy wings are there to boost you.

Somehow the stars managed to align and the game recently got a Steam release.

Personally I prefer F&H more due to less grind / trash encounters, better atmosphere and lower reliance on pre-made art assets, but this one was pretty great as well. Rape is mostly optional and player initiated, getting your dick sucked isn't if you want to level up your party. The H-scenes are also extremely short, so it's not a game you play to get your dick wet.
