Both
Can't close the pandora's box of monetization, games just don't release anymore
Gotta look for smaller games
It's getting worse but Nintendo unironically still makes good games. Can't imagine what PlayStation/Xbox fags are going through with their consoles almost being discontinued.

Just a shift in the landscape.
It used to be you could trust big studios to gamble on more creative, and smaller shit. Now it's so funds and return invested you get a bunch of bland and uninspired shit with horrible DLC from them.
At the same time there's a new smaller studio and indy scene forming of "fuck it I'll do it myself sorts".
You just need to look a little harder to find what you like.

Lots of great indie games come out every year. I've never kept up with AAA releases, so I couldn't tell you anything in that regard.

PS is hinting at unJUSTing itself seeing the nip leadership and abandoning "beefy" hardware, it seems they threw those live services onto xbox as a "fuck it and let's start over"

Most likely both. Unironically try branching out.

Agreed, Nintendo is the only main player left worth a damn. Even they are getting worse, though, at a very slight rate. Their CEO is a finance guy and their overall direction reflects this(not necessarily saying the current direction is bad, but you need people with vision too like Arakawa and Iwata).

Why does George Soros pay you to pretend like 'you're just getting older' somehow qualifies as a legitimate argument when you live in an era where generations of children thinking their childhoods were best and all others are shit have given way a generation who is nostalgic for a time they weren't born and statistically, mathematically, no one sense the Depression has had less opportunities?
People who aren't old and never lived through gaming being good...think modern games suck. No one ten years ago thought that was even possible. We thought Plato's Allegory of the Cave would warp their perceptions; but it's so unbelievably shit that it can't.

I think it's both. For example, just thinking about remakes already puts the current scenario in perspective.
On one hand you have a remake like Super Mario RPG: barely changes anything, is just a remake made to sell.
On the other hand you have something like Romancing Saga 2: Revenge of the Seven - a remake that takes the top-down snes jrpg and makes it into a full-fledged 3D rpg with good graphics, voice acting, and a ton of new stuff to build on the original. This could've easily been another stupid 2DHD game, but it's something much greater instead.
If you only look at the big names and see gaming through those lenses, it's probably just getting worse, but if you actually look at the good stuff, we still have plenty of great games to play, new and old.
