It's a story and world by Benoit Sokal (Syberia), so the blend of realism and fantasy is unique for an adventure game. The remake stays faithful to the original in multiple ways, including how it plays; it's first-person like Myst, except now there are movement transition animations between points in environments, instead of the quick cut between pre-rendered frames like the original. Interactivity overall feels more tactile. They've adapted pretty much all of the puzzles nearly one to one, while expanding everything at the same time. But without making it seem like the game is padded. Even the story is expanded yet faithful, with lots of text unchanged from the original. I just found it to be a beautiful game, the premise is you fulfilling the dying wish of an inventor-explorer who wants to return the mystical egg he stole from a native tribe decades ago, so the egg can finally hatch as intended. You're mute in the game, and that made it easy for me to self-insert into this spirit of adventure. Fantastic music as well.
The negatives are the usual remake soullessness, though at least it's Unity instead of Unreal this time, and I think there's still good atmosphere. Some of the voice acting isn't great either.
