Why does /v/ seem to dislike this series? I get that the remake is woke slop and the third game was an action heavy Gears clone that was a departure from the previous two games but I always found those first two games to be great.
And the combat should be seen as a perfect fit for what modern survival horror games with combat should strive for. The only thing I would change is monsters spewing out ammo like its candy from a pinata. If you take that with the more limited resource management from old survival horror and with a semi open but still linear world design from those same older games then you would have the perfect modern survival horror game. But for some reason nobody seems to realize this.
Just look at how ridiculous Silent Hill 2 remake looks with its combat where James is practically boxing with the monsters. Survival horror combat should feel more restricted, not make you Mike fucking Tyson but with a spiked wooden plank. James wasn't even doing that in the original.
