Healing items are a shitty mechanic. It's overly gamey to drink something that instantly heals you, but also makes the gameplay worse because you have to stop what you're doing to drink something, so it's the worst of both worlds. You should have a larger health pool but heal through other means.

It's a good mechanic. It promotes offense because you have to hit enemies to fill it up, balances resource management, and you have to find a good opportunity to heal yourself.

I hate when retards don't have reading comprehension. When something is gamey, it's for the sake of better gameplay, but healing items aren't fun gameplay. You stop fighting to do stupid shit like drinking out of a bottle, hence it being the worst of both worlds. Especially in Souls games where you often die in 2-3 hits so you have to keep sipping a drink instead of actually fighting.

Souls game are the only games that do it right. You should have very limited healing, the only way to restore it is to rest or die (resetting the area), and the only way to upgrade it is exploration. Literally every other system is trash.
