I play and have Tabletop Simulator installed actually
It doesn't pull in huge numbers or general notice by the public or even 4chan but it has a good enough community with a ton of mods and you can play any board game in existence and even some not in existence like the ones especially tailored for the scripts and physics of it. It can be anything you need and indeed does just that so I'm extremely satisfied and entertained with it. Games don't need to be giga popular or pull top 5 numbers/views to be good. Indeed, there's just no correlation at all.
