Because he didn't. They literally invented this nonsense in 2012. It was never a thing. They killed people's entire families for talking to a fucking chinaman during this time period. You couldn't walk around as someone who was obviously not Japanese.

AC games claim and PR on being "historically accurate", (whatever the fuck that means considering the series), and since vikings are all larpers who dont know shit and greeks are all turks, no one bothered to check on the last few games.
In case of Yasukecreed - not only he was released when even normies started to hop onto the "Woke/not woke" bandwagon, but Ubisoft also started doubling down on "Yea he is real and it is accurate and he was a samurai and not some changs pet", which in turn also attracted the attention of the japs themselves, which became the tipping point.

Because he was the playable male MC instead of a Japanese person and they had to make up many reasons to justify him being the MC at all in the game instead of, again, going with a Japanese MC. AC also already has an established story in this exact time period where Taka (https://assassinscreed.fandom.com/wiki/Yamauchi_Taka) was the male MC and already did things Yasuke would be doing so AC fans who did keep up with the lore were pissed from that side. Then there's the fact that they shoehorned him in in general to events that were already established as if no one would ever talk about a giant black man murdering people.

No one would have bat an eye if he was a major NPC who partnered up with you or even knew Japanese because he worked with the Assassins closely and was sent there to start up a branch or something.

Because Nioh is historical fantasy down to its core. The historical aspect of it is set dressing and every single notable person you meet from history literally kills yokai and takes land by using their Living Weapons whereas in Assassin's Creed it's the main theme.
