As a serious answer, it lacked killer apps that would attract a non-nintendo audience. N64 has Mario64 Ocarina and Goldeneye that were generally great games and not just good Nintendo games.
The closest thing Nintendo had to this was Metroid prime. By 2003 it was clear it was over. They would never win due to lack of DVD, but they could have had good sales and competed well if they had a killer app.
Halo alone was a killer app that made the xbox sell as much as the gamecube instead of selling like the 3DO or some shit.
Nintendo used to make great games, then they made good Nintendo games specifically, and now they make mediocre Nintendo games specifically. Even Breath of the wild didn't catch the eye of non nintendo fans.
