I've recently played all the MGS games again except MGS4 because I hate this one. And I realize now how over rated MGS2 really is. A fucking snoozefest and the gameplay/cutscene/codec ratio is disgusting. The only good thing about MGS2 is obviously the meta comment but then again it's really not that interesting and in the end it's a big nothing burger. Ok there's an AI supposed to control everything about our societies, so what should we do then? Nothing, just "find out yourself". The ending comes off as some pretencious moralist bullshit with the whole thing about "our duty" to pass on our genes, reproduce, blahblahblah but there's nothing about fucking up the actual current world order and start again from scratch. I really don't like the story in MGS2. I use to like it when I was a teenager. But as a grown man with all my past experiences and the way I see the reality of our world today, I feel like the writers take me for a retard (and I probably am a retard but I don't like people acting like I am)

It really is a "word salad" and it's kind of ironic since the game itself talk about how bad the amount of trivial information is. I feel like Kojima wrote most of the silly shit and one other person wrote the actual meaningful stuff

Besides MGS4's over-focus on plot that was kind of a shitfest, I'd say that MGS2 is probably the weakest Solid entry for its core gameplay and structure overall. MGSV had its boring and underbaked open world, certainly, but the Big Shell is such absolute monotonous dogshit with boring patrol patterns, man.

yeah I agree. I think most people that think MGS2 is one of the best didn't actually play it and I can understand why it wasn't well received back then
